2008 GL Puzzle Hunt

This is a puzzle-based scavenger-type hunt developed and run by the Grey Labyrinth.
Most things are worthless, if not lies.
Format

The solution of the initial puzzle (appears below) provides clues to the next puzzle, which will provide clues to the next puzzle, and so on.  The penultimate solution provides access to a Private Forum where the final puzzle is already posted.

There will be no further posting of Hunt puzzles.  The solution to the initial puzzle will provide clues to the next puzzle.  Additionally, clues to guide the Hunt have been scattered around the Discussion Forums and other pages of the Grey Labyrinth.  There are two such hints on this page.  The bulk of the puzzles, and any clues pertaining to those puzzles, can be found within the discussion forums.  Any outside websites needed will be provided during the course of the Hunt.

Rules

Participants are allowed (encouraged) to work together, even in groups of 42, and discuss thoughts and work towards a solution.  Participants may not exploit moderator or other such special access in an effort to finish the Hunt.

Conclusion

As with all GL puzzles, there is no time limit on the solution.  Once the Hunt has been completed all puzzles and solutions will be published.  In the event an individual or small team finishes the Hunt independent of the majority of participants, their name(s) will be published as well.
