Statues in the Park

Yesterday I was walking through my local park when I happened upon two largish statues spaced about 5 meters apart. The first statue was of a cobra, poised to strike, the second was of a walrus. They were positioned facing each other and as I look at them I see that there are engravings on the pedestals. Below the cobra is written

IN THE BEGINNING, GOD CREATED...

Below the walrus is engraved

I AM THE EGGMAN
and underneath that
MAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR

In between the two statues is a third pedestal which used to have a figure on it but this figure had been stolen. The thief had scrawled "THE MISSING LINK" on the middle pedestal. What statue used to reside on that middle pedestal?
