You won't be able to upload anything to the server until the move is complete. (Not that you were able to before.)

The new server doesn't have *all* the features that I wanted, but it's still pretty sweet. The biggest hit is the lack of FTP access. I only get five ftp accounts now. (that's total for all domains.) Me and Jeep are the only users who have sites hosted, but I think there might be some negative impacts. If you desperately need/really enjoy FTP access, let me know and we'll work something out.

All subdomains will be dead. I'll put a few back online (like pics.glpics.com) but if you're using your subdomain a lot, let me know so I can get it set back up for you.

The new server will have an enormous amount of space (50 gig compaired to 5 gig on the old server) The server is hosted by godaddy, and they're uber reliable, so, yeah. I'm excited.

Unfortunately, godaddy didn't offer everything we needed. I'm now trying out 1and1.

I would like to say that godaddy was VERY cooperative with me when I canceled the account. I was on hold for ten seconds, and they have already refunded my money to my paypal account (took them like ten seconds for that as well.)

Too bad they weren't quite what us GLers need for glpics.

1and1 is giving me more than five, so people will still be able to ftp (if they need to.) The new file manager is AMAZING though, and I doubt I'll be using FTP anymore.

If you *need* to have ftp, get with me on AIM or in PM. But, as a favor to me, please at least try the new file manager before demanding FTP access. I still only get a limited number of FTP accounts, so not *everybody* can have them. Some things you can do with the new file manager:

• Password protect directories.
  
• chmod files.
  
• Edit text files online.
  
• Archive options. Zip up your glpics.com data, or unzip a zip file that you've uploaded. Very sweet.
  
• (eventually) change whether a folder can be "listed" or not by default. Currently they still can, but you will have the power to stop that.

VERY IMPORTANT: READ THIS!
Since A LOT of people are going to be signing up for new accounts in the next month or so, please try to follow these simple rules... Try to sign up for your new file-manager account on the day of the week that corresponds to the first letter of your name.

A-D Sunday
E-H Monday
I-L Tuesday
M-P Wednesday
Q-T Thursday
U-X Friday
Y&Z Saturday

I have to point your new accounts to their old folders, and this will help with that process. To sign up, click the register link, go through the motions, and then check your email (you'll need to confirm the account to get it to work.) If you DO NOT use your greylab email to sign up for the account (that's the email you used when you registered here) then I WILL NOT link your new account to your old folder--unless you tell me via PM or IM that you're going to use a different email address.

Also: because GLers are being a bit odd when trying to get their accounts, I get the feeling that maybe I'm being a bit of a Nazi about the accounts.

If you're reading this, then you *are* a GLer, and thereby entitled to a glpics.com account if you want one.

The main reason for the "use your gl email addy" is to ensure that your files aren't going to get assigned to someone else.

The new file manager offers A LOT more control to the end user, and I want to ensure that only GLers (who I trust, which is ALL GL Regulars) have that kind of access to the server. I don't want JoeRandom87 putting up malicious code on the server.

I also think I was wrong about the FTP access, it appears there isn't a limit, so, if you want it, just PM me a password and I'll get it set up for you.

Remember, glpics.com is for GLers (for use here, or anywhere you else you may want to use it.) If you've wandered off from the GL, then you can still have your glpics.com account (because no one ever *really* leaves here. )

I don't even mind if people who AREN'T GLers have glpics.com accounts. I just like to know what it's being used for so it doesn't get out of control with people signing up for thirty accounts to bypass the one meg barrier.

There are some who use "affectations" for their emails. I.E. samadhi[at]gmail[dot]com

Or something like that. Personally I feel that's a sure sign of rampant paranoia, or just a bad spam-filtering program.

But I thought you should know.

The email just lets the glpics admin know that a gler is signing up. samadhi[at]hotmailsux[dot]com is fine because we will know it is the same as samadhi@hotmailsux.com. A man is doing this, not a machine.

Actually, that's not quite true Matthew.

Using your greylab email during the verify stage just lets *me* (or whatever admin gets there first) know that the GLer is, in fact, the one who signed up for his/her account.

Otherwise: a malicious hacker could just sign up as "Samadhi" and then have access to Sam's old glpics.com files.

If you don't want to use a real email addy, I'm fine with that. Put whatever@wherever.com. Just send a PM/email/IM to me, Matthew, or Lepton telling us of your intentions, and we'll push you through the system.

I'm not worried about collecting email addys. It's not like I'm a spam king or something. I just don't want l33t haxors deleting your files.

By the way, the emails are not listed anywhere publicly accessible on glpics.com, and I would never sell them. You can also change it after you log in.

The "untrue" part of Matthew's post was that a hacker could post that fake email addy, and bypass the check. If you use your greylab email and it's verrified, then we KNOW that it's you.

For every draft I posted, I'm sure I have two saved on my computer. I'm not worried about the completed ones anyway, I was referencing upcoming pictures. If it's not very funny, which I'm sure it's not, I'm going to blame... sleepiness? Yeah, sleepiness.
