While spending over 12 hours in airports on Wednesday of this week, I was fortunate enough to find this book:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0312364032/qid=1151695515/sr=2-1/ref=pd_bbs_b_2_1/102-8605129-8147341?s=books&v=glance&n=283155
Anyone who has ANY interest in NYT crossword puzzles must read this. It accompanies the movie by the same name, Wordplay, which will be coming out soon. There is one puzzle in this book in particular, called "The Greatest Puzzle Ever" that blew me away. It was published the day before the Clinton / Dole presidential election, and one of the clues was "Tomorrow's headline". It's the cleverest thing I've ever seen. |

| Interesting... That looks like Qaqaq on the cover, looking over someone's shoulder. |

Good eye! That's also Merl Reagle and Ellen Ripstein in front. The book is a gold mine. Not just puzzles, but stories, step by step lessons in crossword construction, behind the scenes looks, surprises, insights.... I can't wait to see the movie.
I never heard of Jeremiah Farrell before I got this book, but if you have some spare time, Google on that name and prepare for a trip. This guy is unique. He was the constructor of "The Greatest Puzzle Ever". |

| The Greatest Puzzle Ever was also in the first volume of Will Shortz's favorite puzzles, which is where I first encountered it. That also has a sweet one that was one man's proposal of marriage: EMILY WILL YOU MARRY ME is in the finished grid. |
