I lock myself out all the time (my front door automatically locks when closed). usually i just call one of my roommates, they make fun of me, and i get back in, no problem. yesterday i went was struggling to write a paper and thought a walk might help be brainstorm at about 12:15. I had gone about five feet when I realized I didn't have my keys, cell phone, or wallet. My one roommate who was home at the time had already gone to bed and couldn't hear me knocking. So I walked around the block for an hour waiting for someone to come home. It would have been really annoying, but my intention was to walk around anyway, so it was just kind of funny.

I tutor kindergarten in the mornings, and today, one of the kids said 'fuck'. It was pretty damn funny but I couldn't laugh because that would be condoning it. The teacher was pretty upset though.

If he were to grow up to be Antrax he would be identical to Antrax, so maybe he already is Antax.

My wife is a preschool teacher, and I went to visit her at school last week. It was just after the end of the morning class, so there were lots of kids leaving with their parents, and I saw a kid that I knew. He and I goofed around a bit while his mom talked to my wife, and then they left. My wife said, "That is one naughty kid." I said, "Really? Why?" She said, "He waves his middle finger at his classmates and teachers all the time."

I thought this was some combination of funny and horrible, but she went on to say, "Betsy [his teacher] told his mother about it, and she said, 'No. Not him. No.'" I said, "So that's it, then?" She said, "No, his mother came for a class visit a few weeks ago. She was sitting in the class and the kid got mad, and just walked right over to her and flipped her off, right in her face. Then he spun around and flipped off every other kid in the class." HAHAHAHAHAHA!

I asked, "So, then, what did Betsy do?" And my wife said, "She just watched it and smiled." I said, "Nice. She wins."

Currently, over here in Holland, our Prime Minister is making a big fuss about the so-called 'norms and values' (that's translated directly from Dutch. I assume you all know what's meant by it; the unwritten rules by which you live your daily life). The youth of today don't know how to behave, no respec for adults (let alone for the eldery), no more classical teacher-student relationship in education etc.

Is this an issue in other countries as well, or is it just liberal Holland taking things too far and not controlling their offspring? Of course things are more complicated than this five sentence explanation (for those who know their European history: the influence of immigrant workers is a big factor here), but still...any resemblence here with your place of residence?

If you feel like discussing this elsewhere, please redirect me. It's not exactly something that makes you happy Confused I wrote it down here because of GH's post...

It was actually last year's Christmas episode. I imagine you've caught it at some point (I hadn't, though). Sorry to get your hopes up. Or dash them. Or both. In either order. I suppose I'm really not quite sure what I did to your hopes. Sorry anyway, though.

I was amused by the surprise my little sister made for my desktop background, noting both my love of the insanely cheesy, and my tendency to have a loved one as my background. Ecstatic Happiness

Also, I just called an American company, and they loved my accent. Which always makes me happy. I like being a novelty. Felicitous The amusing part was trying to get the woman to understand my vowels...

"What was your first name?"
"Ellen."
"I'm sorry, I..."
"Sorry, it's the accent. The name is Ellen."
"Do you think you could spell it?"
"E-"
"A?"
"No, Ellen with an E. An E for Elephant."
"Ohhhhhhhh, ELLEN!"
*giggling* "That's right"
*also giggling* "I thought you said 'Owen', and thought, 'that can't be right'!"

Lucky I wasn't asking for anything wet or white. Shocked

lots of awws when i looked at ost's post, but then i saw this story at the blog of someone i know.

Quote:
He brought his new girlfriend home for the first time to meet his parents. They sat down to a nice, formalish dinner at the dining room table in front of a large picture window, looking out on the back lawn.

Midway through dinner, his girlfriend noticed a squirrel on the bird feeder outside the window.

"Oh, look at that squirrel!" she said. "How cute!"

His dad, at the head of the table, turned around to see. He got up without a word and left the room.

Moments later, the family saw him in the back yard, holding a rife. He took aim and shot the squirrel. It fell to the ground, dead, beneath the bird feeder.

The girlfriend burst into tears and ran off to the bathroom.

The father returned to the dinner table, and without a word, he picked up his fork and resumed eating.
