Yeah, yeah. Enough with the "what" threads.  But, more than anything that fits into another thread, there are moments in my day where other people just aggravate my life. It's not miserable, because I'm a big boy, but it feels good to share the stupidity of others with people who will understand.

One of the study questions in Econ was regarding fallacies.....specifically this: "Market societies do well in wartime because war promotes full employment and growing income. Hence, an economic boom can lead to conditions favorable to war."
Post hoc was brought up before this and the teacher asked for examples, so I raised my hand and said, "The economy improved after WWII, therefore war is good for the economy." Naturally I said this because of the naked assumption in the former example.
What annoyed me is that my teacher dismissively said "Oh, that's similar to the study question." (basically not getting that I was attacking the underlying assumption) I pressed it, and I heard some moron behind me say to the moron next to him "Siiiiigggghhh. Why doesn't he get it?" I really, really wanted to kill that guy at that moment. Instead the teacher continued explaining what I knew and I had to wave it off, "I understand the fallacies, but I disagree and I don't think you understand what my point is. But I feel I'm wasting everyone else's times so let's move on." |

Laws against flag burning will only create a backlash of more flag burning in protest. This criminalizing of the act will then create more "criminals" and then guess what? The need for more prisons! So now we'll have prisons packed to the gills with dope smokers and flag burners, while the murderers, rapists, and armed robbers walk the streets where there is a lack of police protection because all the tax money is going to build more prisons.
Also, people who tell me what goes on in their bathroom aggravate me. I wonder why they think people want to hear (or read) about that. |

The usage of the system to sue someone. It's been abused and when someone says "I'll sue you", (not that anyone hasto me....yet) I get very annoyed. Why can't we just talk it over coffee or something? What happened to discussing things with your fellow man? It went out the window a long time ago. Who knows? Maybe we'll get it back one day.

I gotta agree with extro here.
America was founded on the philosophy that people need the right to confront their government, and even overturn it if the need arises. If the flag represents America then it represents that right.
So anyone who burns a flag is really burning his right to burn the flag, and so he is a self-contradicting fool.
Conversely, any congressman who wants to make flag-burning illegal is reversing the rights that the flag represents, and so he is also a self-contradicting fool.
I think flag burning should be legal ~AND~ I personally have no interest in doing so.
And I see no contradiction between the two. |
