The contorted rock stood in the clearing between the village and the forest. It seemed like it had always been there. But not according to the story.
Every mother told her children the same tale, told to her by her mother, to her mother by her grandmother, and beyond. No one could remember how long ago the tale began.
In the early days, so the legend went, when the tribe had first settled in the valley, the stone had not been there. The village had prospered, with the natural resources of timber from the forest, water from the stream, and the fertile pasture. It never had great wealth, but everyone lived comfortable, contented lives, and rarely went hungry.
There was, however, one unusual thing about the village, or rather the neighbouring forest. There came noises at night, terrible noises.
Though they never seemed close to the village, no-one would venture into the forest after the sun had set.
After many years the villagers became used to the noises. They did not wake from their slumber at the sound, yet were wise enough never to venture into the forest after dusk.
Generations passed and occasionally the villagers would observe to one another that the forest seemed to be becoming quieter, year by year, then month by month. Quieter during the day.
Then one day they noticed an unnatural silence in the forest. The wind rustled the leaves, but no animal could be heard, even birdsong was silenced.
That night the terrible noises came from outside the forest, closer to the village than ever before. Villagers awoke and cowered in their huts.
The next day, charred remains of livestock were found in the pastures, surrounded by ashes and singed pasture. The noises could be ignored no longer. The elders met, and discussed the matter frantically, soon reaching the conclusion that they must send for the local wise man. The fittest, swiftest horse was given to the messenger, and he left with great haste.
A few days later the messenger returned to the village with the wise man. They noted that the pasture was almost void of life, and it's ground was as black as the forest shadows at night.
“I have heard of such happenings” the wise man spoke solemnly to the elders.
“This is the doing of creatures of the night. There are dragons and phoenix, rarely one without the other. When united, there is harmony. But when separate, terrible things may happen”. He, took a deep breath, “You did well to send for me, for when all else is dead, the villagers will perish. I may yet be able to cease the destruction. Listen well, for if I succeed you must heed my warning." He paused to ensure he had their attention, "Never tell an outsider of these things, nor move nor harm anything new that appears in the clearing this night”.
That night, so legend had it, the old man had gone out to stand alone against the creatures. Horrible noises had been heard, amongst them some thought they heard screamed words of the man, and light had flashed outside the huts as the villagers huddled, and trembled within.
At dawn, they could not find the wise man. No further livestock had been harmed, but there was a rock in the clearing, and nearby the old man’s discarded cloak.
Their nights had been peaceful since that day.
So the story went. No-one was truly sure whether they believed it or not these days, though they never told it to an outsider.
Then one day, today in fact, a crack had appeared in the stone. No one knew how it had happened, or at least no one would say. The villagers went to bed feeling uneasy. One of them even clutched the now ancient cloak for comfort. _________________

Dawn breaks, people tentatively leave their huts, and look around for the signs they dread.
Then they see it, the charred remains of a human. The old story appears to be true. Your hearts sink. Someone vomits with fear.
A check amongst yourselves reveals that the unidentifiable remains were once your friend, referee.
You now have some lynching to do, by Thursday 8pm(BST)
7 votes to lynch. If no-one has reached lynch numbers by deadline, the person with the most votes will be lynched, provided they have at least 4 votes. _________________

Hey, this place is probably located a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, so I'm definitely not out of place.
The person who is out of place is Samadhi. An easterner on an alien planet? Don't think so. vote Samadhi (random) |

| I don't think that Porro would do that to DP. I mean, it's kind of obvious. If Porro made DP a Phoenix or Dragon or whatever the killing party is (I'm not quite convinced which is which), then that'd be unfair, IMO. |

| Wow, that deadline really is going to push us. I think jesternl probably could have done a better job of covering a bandwagon when they're going to go this swiftly. I'll bandwagon him, but if he turns out to be innocent, we should probably look at Mgm and DP for doing what jesternl (if scum) probably should have. |

With only four days to vote, we need participation. I've only made one post with a random vote, so here's my second post. Still to show up are mole and Samadhi. Fuldu and MadMax have each posted once without a vote. I'm tempted to change from random to one of the lurkers, but I think the jesternl/DP situation has some merit. I've a feeling one of them might be scum, but I'm not entirely sure it's jester.
vote: DP so they'll each have three. Still plenty of time (sort of) until the deadline. |

Well, you all know what they say about the persn who places the third vote. The question is, which one is scum: Mgm or Quailman?
Anyway, I don't think I'm going to throw my weight on either side yet. It's going to be such a short day, I don't know if we'll have time to gather any information, so I don't think it'd be right to choose a side. Then of course, we might end the day with a no lynch, which wouldn't do any good either. Hmm, I don't know what to do. If I cast my vote on DP, he will most likely be lynched, and he'll be out of his own game in day 1. If I cast my vote on jesternl, DP stays in, and jesternl thinks Porro would make him mafia, so it'd look like I'm supporting DP. Of course, I think that Porro would give DP a good role, since the town is more likely to win. He could have distributed the roles randomly too, like jadesmar said. Either way, it might look like I'm favoring one over the other.
*That was just me thinking things through*
For now, I think I'll keep my vote on Samadhi because if we have no information anyway, we might as well lynch a lurker/non-poster. |

No good mod would ever distribute roles according to anything other than randomness. I think jesternl's suggestion in that direction was unintentional, but Jedo's is consistently deliberate.

On the other hand, Jedo didn't use his theory as justification for a vote. I think jester's slightly more scummy because he's trying to kill someone with flawed logic:

With a bit over 31 hours of daylight remaining, the humans argue who to kill in their hunt to rid themselves of the unleashed evil.
Thus far the favoured to kill are:
Dragon Phoenix (3) Wordcross, jesternl, Quailman
Jedo the Jedi (1) Fuldu
Samadhi (1) Jedo the Jedi
jesternl (4) jadesmar, Dragon Phoenix, Mgm, mole
Quailman (1) Annoyingpest

No I don't strictly want to get rid of him, although I am sure he can appreciate the irony
But the fact is that the first victim got BBQ'ed to death, which is one of DP's trademarks.
