The House of the Fallen
(A Mafiesque Scenario for 12 Players)
For recognition and reward, a group of twelve townspeople venture inside the vacant, decrepit Arlington House just outside town. The deal with the local newspaper is simple — spend a week inside exploring and uncovering the mysteries that caused the house to be abandoned long ago in exchange for a total sum of forty thousand dollars. For these poor townspeople, it is the chance of a lifetime — and in this modern age, no one believes in ghosts...or vampires...or werewolves.
The house is dark but not inaccessible. A preliminary look around reveals only dusty furniture and a library of books, creaking floors and ancient candles. Until one of you, exploring by himself, notices a glimpse of gold shining behind the zoological bookcase.
"That's odd," he calls. "Here, someone help me move this." Another of you steps into the room and together, you pull at the rotting wood. It creaks, then gives way with a crash. On top of the bookcase, undisturbed for decades, a complex trap moves, and beakers of yellowish liquid splash down onto your bare arms.
Instinctively, you move back, but it is too late. The substance runs through your skin, your veins, your mind. The change is profound and immediate. And lycanthropic. Quietly the two of you put the bookcase back and rejoin the rest of the group, who notice nothing.
Later, yet another member is browsing through the thaumaturgical section of the library when he uncovers an ancient diary. It tells of the secrets of the past Arlingtons, great warlocks and witches...spells of immense power, potions of nefarious design. It describes the existence of a yellowish antiphiltre which causes its imbibers to become werewolves...not in the light of the full moon, but in the light of any moon. It contains dark prophecies, proclaiming the return of the ancient Fallen and the fell Lord Arlington himself, this very month.
Of course, this can't be real. It must have been set up by the newspaper to cause you to abandon your quest. Right?

THE UN-DEAD (3/12)
Barbarian
Digit Ne
Legend of Tenshi
THE DEAD (9/12)
cloudRunner (Seminarian) — murdered by the Fallen, Night 1.
Annoyingpest (Opportunist) — slain by the group, Day 1.
mudbuck (Townsperson) — murdered by the Fallen, Night 2.
CorwinofAmber (Townsperson) — slain by the group, Day 2.
Mgm (Townsperson) — murdered by the Fallen, Night 3.
Porro (Fallen Werewolf) — slain by the group, Day 3.
Courk (Priest) — murdered by the Fallen, Night 4.
mole (Vampire) — staked through the heart, Night 4.
MadMax (Fallen Werewolf) — slain by the group, Day 4.
THE RULES
1. You have each been sent a PM containing details of your role and alignment. Quoting these messages or any subsequent messages you receive from me is illegal and is punishable by death and mockery, first offense.
2. During the Day, feel free to talk in the thread. If you don’t, I’ll replace you and then mock you, or mock you and then replace you. During the Night, the thread will hopefully be locked; don’t talk in it anyway.
3. Lynching is by simple majority of vote. Should a player receive a majority during the Day, that player (hereafter called the lynchee) will be lynched by the Moderator. “No lynch” is an acceptable vote; should a majority of players vote “no lynch,” the Moderator will declare Night without a lynchee.
4. The proper way to vote is vote: Meursault. Unbolded votes, votes without closed tags, et. al. will not be counted. Unvoting is not necessary; I will use your most recent vote in vote counts. I will never require confirm votes.
5. The time in between a lynchee receiving the necessary amount of votes to be lynched and the Moderator declaring Night is called twilight (credit to jeep and sketchwick.) During this time, there is to be no conversation of relevance.
6. Night deadlines are strict and will not be repealed unless I have good reason. If you or your group does not send a Night choice or a reasonable request for a deadline extension by the end of the deadline, your Night choice will be processed in the manner I perceive is most likely to harm you. If this is a recurring problem, you will be replaced quickly and humiliated in front of your peers. I suggest any Night groups, if you exist, elect a leader to send choices. Day deadlines are lenient; if I impose a Day deadline and there is discussion, it will probably be repealed.
7. Should a Day deadline be reached, lynching will occur with half majority; if no candidate has a half-majority, there will be no lynch.
8. No Day deadline will be imposed during Days with five or fewer players remaining. Neither will the “Town” be informed in lynch-or-lose situations.
9. Private Night communication is restricted to those groups that I have privately allowed to communicate. It is otherwise outlawed.
10. Once you are dead, no talking in the thread. Should you have a question about your role or the game mechanics, PM me and we’ll work it out. Speaking of this, the Moderator is God at all times. If your Night action didn’t seem to go through, don’t get all pissy in the thread — send a PM. If one of the other players is verbally abusing you out of thread, don’t flame back -— send a PM. If the PM system isn’t working, send an email to meursault@gmail.com. If the vote count is wrong, correct me in thread, it’s probably my bad.
11. Despite these abnormally long rules, the goal of the game is enjoyment. I will enjoy running this most if you enjoy playing it.

Twilight. Arlington House.
Spooked by the diary, the twelve of you decide to stay the Night in the entrance Hall of the Arlington House. As you settle into an uneasy sleep, the moonlight slices through the windows like a sword, flooding the room and eliciting changes few of you believed were real...
The Fallen have returned to this world.
Unwilling to strike in a room with so many people, the two werewolves slink out of the room to explore the nooks and crannies of the House, knowing full well that the House is a melting pot of motivations, agendas, and evil. It will not be long before others wake and begin to explore, eager to solve the mysteries of the House and win their prize.
The results of the Night are still a mystery. |

Daybreak, Main Hall.
In the morning, both well and poorly-rested, eleven of you awake.
Eleven?
At first uneasy, you set off exploring, noticing that cloudRunner is the missing person. Soon you find him, and your unease turns to terror. His body has been ripped to shreds by inhuman force, his blood spread in a pool around him. A claw has carved into the blood two words.
HE FELL.
As you begin to rush for the door, a reasoned voice stops you. "We cannot let the Fallen run into the world," it says. "We must destroy them here, or the earth will perish." All of you agree that this is the best method, although few of you have ever thought about killing your fellow adventurers before.
It is those few you wish to eliminate.
A search of cloudRunner's belongings reveals him to be a Seminarian.
MEURSAULT DATABASE ROLE R004 — Seminarian
You know there is a Priest in this game. While you are alive, he has some resistance and protection to Night kills due to your prayers. Should he die, you will take over his duties.
IT IS NOW DAY 1. WITH ELEVEN ALIVE, SIX VOTES ARE NEEDED TO LYNCH. |

Exactly! The mafia didn't kill me last night because they wanted to kill me today.
Obviously every action the mafia takes is carefully planned to engineer my death. I find that trying to kill mole is a sure sign of being scum.

I don't think that logic is logical since it's the first round of voting. A bandwagon starts with three not two, so I would not think that would be a good reason to find that suspicious. But what the heck, you gotta start somewhere (first round is mostly craplogic) _________________ - Don't trust anyone, you are sure to be wrong sometime

Holy good god. I see him, he looks suspicious and I vote for him. This leads to a bandwagon against me? Mole's vote I can see coming as a OMGUS vote. Annoyingpest and Courk leaping on board looks like a mafia pile-on.

| So you're saying he looked suspicious, and that's why you're voting for him? I only ask because your vote is clearly labled as being random. Either you have a reason or you don't. You can't have both. Either way you say it now is a lie, hence my vote. |

I was making a joking reference about seeing him on my way to University last Tuesday. It was the only reasoning I could find for any vote. I wanted to get the feathers flying and a real discussion happening. I didn't realise the potential for me to see someone IRL meant I would get lynched _________________ Tech support sucks |

How exactly did you hope to get real discussion going by posting this?

It just looks like a vote trying to slip under the scummy radar by being trivial. Which isn't exactly abnormal for day 1.
But now you're getting all defensive, and claiming it was supposd to get discussion going?

| FOS Tenshi you do seem to be getting very defensive. You could just as easily have started "feathers flying" by making a vote rather than labeling it as random. I'm not voting before the discussion picks up. I don't want anyone lynched until there's enough info to go on tomorrow. |

Not that I am a very experienced player, but from the games I have seen the frst discussions never bring much to the game other than a lot of FOS-ing for nothing which leads to a probable or elss probable deathvictim for the day. There is never much to go on. I don´t want to push anyone for quick lynching, but sometimes the goal is more important than the way by which the goal is reached. I know this sounds totaly scummy, but in my opinion this is how mafia is usualy played.
Either way my vot still remains for now _________________ - Don't trust anyone, you are sure to be wrong sometime

Someone has to bite the bullet on day 1, often due to a flimsy reason, or a minor thing in a post that attracts attention.
Sometimes (normally later in the game) minor details are very important. _________________

Well, since we don't seem to be getting that far with the voting thing...
What does everyone think of this "retired priest" role? I was reading through the death scene again and I realised something horrible - why would the original priest need this kind of semi-permanent protection?
I think we might have to face more than these werewolf things. Probably a serial-killer type.
And what about these Fallen? Are they the werewolves, or some other group? |

Who knows what we're up against. I think werewolves is good possibility. And if we have werewolves then why not vampires, zombies and other such monsters?
If that's the case that would mean the blockers will have to keep a close eye on their targets. |

Well, so far the mod has mentioned:
"ghosts...or vampires...or werewolves"
"great warlocks and witches"
"the ancient Fallen"
So there are a lot of possibilities as well as the werewolves (which we know about for sure).
To keep the voting going, I may aswell Vote: Tenshi, particularly since I thought I already had. _________________
