Game update: The game is over. See for details the post at page 9.

Alive and trying to be funny [6]:

Legend of tenshi
Logain
MadMax
Nanook the wolf
Taflinel
Vegetable

Dead dodo's [12]
Werebear (Marty Crane, Frasier, retired cop, shot)
Kd (Frasier Crane, Frasier, psychiatrist, shot)
Fuldu (Dr. Harry Weston, Empty Nest, doctor, lynched)
Quailman (Baldrick, Blackadder, vigilante, shot)
Highroller (Burt Campbell, Soap, mafia, shot)
ZortKitty (Arnold Rimmer, Red Dwarf, coward townie, food poisoning)
IS/Sexy Goat (Polly, Fawlty Towers, townie, lynched)
Leonidas (Niles Crane, Frasier, spare psychiatrist, town, shot and shot and shot)
Quagmire (Murphy Brown, reporter, town, lynched)
Porro (Greg Montgomery, Dharma and Greg, attorney, town, shot twice)
Sweetwater (Margaret Hoolihan, MASH, nurse, town, shot)
Planky (Chester Tate, Soap, mafia GF, lynched)

THE RULES:
[01] Have fun and don't be a jerk. Please have consideration for the other players and the mod, and actually PLAY the game by posting and voting.
[02] No communication outside the thread unless your role allows you to do so and then only in the game's nights.
[03] Get your choices in before the deadlines. If not, a random choice will be made for the first night, and no choice for subsequent nights.
[04] No quoting my or others emails. No paraphrasing of winning conditions either.
[05] If you're dead YOU'RE DEAD. No more posting relevant information after that.
[06] Lynching will be carried out once a regular majority is reached - and cannot be undone by unvoting. If I impose a day deadline, lynching will require at least half of the regular majority. In case of a tie, first come first served. In the endgame (6 or less) only a real majority will result in a lynch.
[07] Only votes in BOLD will be counted. Please clearly unvote if you want to change your vote.
[08] Do NOT edit or delete your posts! If you made a coding error, just post again.
[09] Do NOT post in invisible text.
[10] The mod is always right. Accept the decisions, and if you want to discuss them, take it to email, or do so after the game has finished.

Advices:
[11] There are many logical role names that I have not included to discourage mass claiming.
[12] Any misspelling that occurred in a role name may or may not be intentional. Lynching someone based on a misspelled role name is a dangerous gamble.
[13] If you know you will not be checking the thread for a period of 72 hours or more, it would be nice if you would post that beforehand.
[14] If your email does not contain your GL name, please identify yourself in the text of the email.
[15] Do not quote or paraphrase the winning conditions of the townies, unless you want to feel the wrath of the mod.
[16]If you're out of the game, you may come back as substitute - only if you do not talk to other players about the game after your death of course.

I'll make an exception and shift the deadline one day (Wednesday 2PM GL time), as some players might try to contact me via scum (which is having severe problems).

Please, only use email for communicating your choices. Scum is not reliable at the moment, and AIMing them runs the risk that I don;t see them at all.

Dawn breaks over Comedytown, with two corpses in sight. Werebear is no more. A little dog stands whimpering next to the corpse of Marty Crane (from the series Frasier), a retired cop. Done in by two shots, one from a Mauser, one from a rifle. In a touching display of family togetherness, his son Frasier (Kd) is lying next to him, a bullet hole from a magnum in his forehead.
You have lost both a psychologist (role finder) and a retired cop. I have seen better starts. With 16 players left alive, 9 to lynch.

Frasier family rest in peace.
Life follows reality......the show expires this year as well.

We seem to have a mauser, rifle and magnum.
IE; 3 killers.

Grabbing at straws here, but the way thats written, it could be taken to mean kd was targetting by more than one as in shot twice, rather than werebear being shot by one - kd the other.

sorry for the double post... I reread planky's reply and got confused... did he really mean KD got targetted twice?

It looks to me as if that was Werebear who got shot two times, and kd once. Since 3 weapons were mentioned, I take it to mean there were three killers... two targeting Werebear, and one targeting KD.

3 killing parties... Looks to me like 2 mafia's and a vig who decided to try to emulate taflinel. 2 mafs and an sk seems a bit intense to me.

I agree with you there Vegetable, but I wouldn't be so quick as to put the possibility of an sk aside.

Fuldu brings up an interesting concept. Any particular comedy characters known for using a magnum, Mauser, or rifle?

Rifle - Could be M*A*S*H?
Mauser - As Fuldu said, Sgt. Schulz from Hogan's Heros
Magnum - I can't get past Dirty Harry. Guns and comedy just don't seem to mix. Of course, there's probably a slew of Britcoms I don't know about.

The question is, who wants to get the ball rolling on the lynching. Vegies palm off of there being a SK seems a bit suspect.

Wow! That is pretty harsh there...Don't have too much to say I suppose on the fact that maybe two mafia familys and maybe an sk out there that hasn't already been said, but that is what I am assuming. That or there is a vigilante that was pretty eager to use his stuff.

On a side note I was just wondering about a couple things like, how do you bold a vote?...for future reference and also is there somewhere that shows how to make smileys just in case I feel the need to use one?

If things are similar to mafiascum in that tense I should be fine, but just want to make sure before I make an idiot of myself.

The joke was lost, ho hum on with the show. (Sheepish worked better than goatish)

You are lumping everything in with American sit-coms here, don't forget DP said both American and English, so the rifle could well be a character from 'Dad's Army'. As for the Magnum, well there was a brief comedy called 'Hammer' where I'm sure he had some sort of big weapon in his pocket

Back to the voting, and I'd like sweetwater to explain his gizmo to us all. For now anyway, I'm just watching and listening.

On what planet are Dirty Harry and any Charles Bronson movies (though I infer that you're thinking of Death Wish) classed as comedies?

There's some stupid drivel being spouted today, sheesh!

As far as I'm concerned 3 shootings equates to either:

2 mafia families and 1 sk
1 mafia family and 2 sk

However, since DP has a reputation for dishing out lots of roles, i.e. over and above the bog-standard cop, doc, townie, I believe it's the former scenario, with some useful townie roles thrown in to balance the game.

Unfortunately it's a great start for the scum. However, the fact that a retired cop has died, means that there is at least one non-retired cop still alive. I'd like to think that there were 2.

Unfortunately, if I'm interpreting our role finder's abilities correctly, we may have lost our (or one of our depending how many cops etc are left) PI(s). But it's not clear whether the 'role' would be merely be a character name, or the description e.g. mafia/cop/doc etc.

Some comedies with guns:

Dads Army
Seargeant Bilko
Police Squad
Hogans Heroes
McHale's Navy
Southpark
etc etc

If movies are included:

Naked Gun
Beverly Hills Cop
Loaded Weapon
Hot Shots
Police Academy
blagh blagh

I thought I'd join in, though I'm not sure what all the speculation will achieve

I'm here, I'm here. I am also being forced to reveal something to the entire world, because of a quirk in my role. I have to do it before the day ends, otherwise I have no idea what happens.

I bet I get modkilled though, so I'm going to say it now.

I am Murphy Brown. I'm a cop who has to reveal his results to the town during the day.

I inspected Legend of tenshi last night. He is Patsy from Asbolutely Fabulous.

Sorry I had to do that, but I'm a cop and I'm pretty damn valuable. Someone please tell me what Patsy would do, because I'm ignorant about the show Absolutely Fabulous.

Patsy would basically drink and make fun of people. Hard to imagine what sort of role that would be.

As for the magnum, an obvious guess would be Magnum P.I., but I see three problems with that.

First, Magnum P.I. was more of a drama than a comedy.
Second, Magnum was a good guy, not a bad guy.
Third, Magnum P.I. suggests cop, not vig. (And don't suggest Taflinel's supercop/vig role, either)

I actually liked SexyGoatinSuspenders' reference to the TV show Hammer. The show only lasted two seasons, but the main character in the comedy was a Dirty Harry clone, except he usually bungled things up along the way. So maybe we have a mafia, sk and a vigilante rather than two mafias.

I'd like to hear what Tenshi has to say about Quagmire's claim before I cast away any random vote though.

I'm not saying the town doesn't have one, but:

1. I would hope the Vig wasn't dumb enought to kill randomly, so I'm tentatively discounting the possibility that he/she killed last night.

2. If we have a Vig that is forced by role definition to kill every night, then as far as I'm concerned that's virtually as bad as a serial killer. Take last night's murders as an example!

3. In a game with 18 players (originally 20 intended), I would normally expect three 'evil' killers/groups, unless there were perhaps 2 sizable mafia families and no serial killers. By sizeable I'd say at least 4 each, or at least 3 each with one or two recruitable mafia moles or whatnot.

4. Bearing in mind DP's wonderful reputation for 'interesting roles for all' I think the fact that most if not all 'townies' will have powers, would also lead to 3 killing groups for balance.

Ok I googled Murphy Brown.

She was a reporter, not a cop.

Was she a good reporter, or was she a bit bumbling, and likely to be an incompetant cop of some sort?

Someone must have seen the show....

Although my role is cop-ish, though.
