Game update: Godmother Jeep gets tennisballed. Game set and match Taflinel.

Good and evil, but alive, Aussies (8):

Cadmium
Fuldu
Kd
Mackay Rebel Lord
MadMax
Taflinel
Vegetable
Xer0x

Dead ducks (12):
Quailman (Paladin, town, killed by hatred)
Damelon (Skippy, Animal Godfather, killed by tennisball)
The Ktulu (Dr. Cyril P. Callister, town, bitten to death)
Baba (Cathy Freeman, town, lynched by the mob)
Leonidas (Droopy the Dropbear, Animal mafia, killed by tennisball)
Jesternl (Bruce, townie, killed by hatred)
Raist (The dingo who ate my baby, Animal mafia, lynched)
Sweetwater (Ned Kelly, Human mafia, killed by tennisball)
Porro (mole, potential mafia, hated to death)
Referee (Pauline Hanson, Human mafia, killed by tennisball)
jadesmar Werebear (MadMax, cop, lynched)
Jeep (Mackay, human Godmother, killed by tennisball)

Revealed non-standard roles:

Quailman=Paladin
Every night you can ask someone whether they know what your other identity is. This will bore your victim so much that they will sleep through the next day. If you want to do so, send me an email with your choice. You win when the town wins.

The Ktulu=Dr. Cyril P. Callister
You are the inventor of vegemite. You can force-feed vegemite at night to a player of your choice. This will make them so ill that they can only make one post the next day. If you want to do so, send me an email with your choice. You win when the town wins.

Baba=Cathy Freeman
You will survive a night attack from any number of attackers by running faster than them. However, you cannot do this on two consecutive nights. You win when the town wins.

Porro=mole
You are a spy for whichever mafia first decides to recruit you. You are keen on joining any mafia group, and want to win their favours by snooping around. Every night you can check on one person by email and I’ll tell you the name of their role. If a mafia target you, you die. Any mafia group can activate you in the course of the game, in which case you lose your abilities, but become a regular killing member. You win when your mafia wins - if you do not get recruited, you win when the town wins.

No worries mate!
Except that OZ has been turned into a battlefield for several killing groups. Oh well.

The rules:
[01] Have fun and don't be a jerk. Please have consideration for the other players and the mod, and actually PLAY the game by posting and voting.
[02] No communication outside the thread unless your role allows you to do so and then only in the game's nights.
[03] Get your choices in before the deadlines. If not, a random choice will be made for the first night, and no choice for subsequent nights.
[04] No quoting my or others emails.
[05] If you're dead YOU'RE DEAD. No more posting relevant information after that.
[06] Lynching will be carried out once a regular majority is reached - and cannot be undone by unvoting. If I impose a day deadline, lynching will require at least half of the regular majority. In case of a tie, first come first served.
[07] Only votes in BOLD will be counted. Please clearly unvote if you want to change your vote.
[08] Do NOT edit or delete your posts! If you made a coding error, just post again.
[09] Do NOT post in invisible text.
[10] The mod is always right. Accept the decisions, and if you want to discuss them, take it to email, or do so after the game has finished.

Advices:
[1] There are many logical role names that I have not included to discourage mass claiming.
[2] Any misspelling that occurred in a role name may or may not be intentional. Lynching someone based on a misspelled role name is a dangerous gamble.
[3] If you know you will not be checking the thread for a period of 72 hours or more, it would be nice if you would post that beforehand.
[4] If your email does not contain your GL name, please identify yourself in the text of the email.
[5] The winning conditions of the townies is " You win when the town wins."
[6] If you're out of the game, you may come back as substitute - only if you do not talk to other players about the game after your death of course.

DAY 1:
You all know that on a first day in a DP mafia it is not 'who is the victim', but 'how many'...
You find the first victim very quickly. Quailman, or Paladin as he was known in Oz, is no more. One townie down, apparently killed by waves of sheer hatred.
The second victim you come across is Damelon. Poor Skippy the Kangaroo, eliminated by a tennisball served at killer speed. You are ready to mourn the death of this beloved Australian icon, until you realise he was actually the Godfather of the Animal Mafia, aiming to take control of the continent.
Another dead body awaits you around the corner. Townie The Ktulu will not force-feed vegemite anymore. He has been bitten to death.
A little bit further you find the body of Mackay. Or so you think. Fortunately, she is only asleep, but she will not be able to post this day.

With 17 players left (16 who can post), it will take nine votes to lynch someone. Have a nice day, mates.

So The Ktulu appears to have been killed by the Animal Mafia. Skippy, then, wasn't probably attacking tennis role and killed by an auto-defense (although with a godfather I wouldn't rule it out), so we probably have a Sports Mafia (or SK) and an Angry SK (or Mafia).
Random Vote: Mackay, sort of dumb while she can't defend herself, but that's what the random said.

Woohoo Day! And we got a godfather!

The Ktulu was clearly killed by the Animal Mafia

Since the mafia is named, we almost certainly have two mafia, my guess is that:
Damelon was killed by the ?People? Mafia (or maybe the tennis player mafia?)

And being killed by Hatred sounds SKish to me:
Quailman killed by a serial killer?

vote: Fuldu for voting someone who cannot defend themselves. You should have taken Mackay out of the list.

Should have, maybe, but I didn't, and if you start rerunning the random choices whenver you get an answer you don't like, it's not exactly random any more, is it? In any event, it's not like I expect a bandwagon to start forming on her, and if, for some bizarre reason, it did, I'd remove my vote.

It's nice to see that you agree with all the rest of my post, though.

Killing the GF right from the first day can't be that bad...

Random thoughts:
  • All townie-roles could be from the GL, whether it is members (Paladin) or word-related (Vegemite). We could probably expect mole, Mackay etc...
  • Animal mafia has enough openings for several members: Koala, platypus, emu, tasmanian devil etc. I wouldn't bet on it being the single mafia group in this game, although there are other possibilities (bigger group, bigger masonic lodge, recruiting etc)
  • Three deaths on day 1. As DP already said, typical of his type of game. the kt was the victim of the mafia for sure. I think I'm not the only one who has a good guess on who is the role (NOT the player) that killed Damelon. I'm having trouble getting together a group on this theme but OTOH I'm not that familiar with Australian sports. Q's death is the most puzzling of all and I'm leaning towards a one-time ability. It could be a SK but we can't tell until next day rises.
[Possible killers: Another mafia group, cult, SK, evil/incompetent doctor, vigilante, bonus mafia kills, one-shot kill, triggered by investigation]
  • From the two town roles described, I'd be more surprised to see the a town role without something special.
  • Quailman/Paladin was just having a special ability or is there something more to it? Could there be a trigger when he would target someone who knew his other identity? Was someone searching for him to kill him out of hatred because he won't reveal the answer to his lost competition puzzle? Am I going mad?

That's enough for the first post.
I'll go get my meds and I'll be watching you...

    Random Vote: Cadmium

Bitten to death sounds like a Dingo to me.
The tennisball could come from Arondalf, that would be in line with the theory that there's a group of people with GL names as their roles.
I am fairly sure there are townies without special abilities though, in DP's latest few games there have been roles like that.

You shouldn't be. This is, after all, a DP game. He'll always throw a wrench in the set up.

And Fuldu- true, it wouldn't be random, but you should know that you should not vote for someone who is incapacitated... it's unseemly. When you noticed that, you should have either restrained from voting or re-evaluated the list you used. You can say that you would have un-voted if a bandwagon started going, but if you are going to do that, you shouldn't vote in the first place.

So as to show DP I'm not dead yet, I will randomly vote: Kd.

Mackay = targeted by (now dead) Quailman?
    Waves of hatred = racist/neo-nazi killer-type things?

Also I don't think the mafia would kill with tennis balls. Sounds more like a vigilante-type kill to me. I could be wrong, though.

Fair dinkum, random is random... OMGUS. *ahem*

Yeah, I think it fits that Mackay was Quail's target. And she's probably a little peeved that she STILL hasn't found out Paladin's other identity.

(Warning: following joke can and will be offensive to some, and is so apologised for in advance.) Maybe the killer(s?) who use pure hatred are part of the Australian rugby team... Oh, I'm surprised nobody else picked up on that, maybe it's just because I'm a Pom. Eh...

Before you all say it, I know this post is very jokey, but after reading my own role, and seeing which roles died, this whole mafia game is looking to be in the spirit of fun fun fun, so I fit right in. *beams*

First thing: MadMax, I hope you recover well and quick.

It looks like the Godfather of the Animal Mafia was killed by a power server: Rod Laver, Pat Cash, Patrick Rafter, or Mark Philippoussis come to mind. All of them could be considered "good guys" in the tennis world - no Nastase, Connors, or McEnroe in that lineup. Therefore I'm thinking the killer is a vigilante, a pro-town killer, although it seems too early in the game for a vigilante strike. Since the Animal Mafia has been identified, I agree that there must be a rival mafia.

The Paladin hatred kill could be the work of this other mafia group, but the apparent lack of a physical weapon used in the kill suggests the possible existence of a killer with telekinetic powers, a character DP has used before. Someone who could kill without leaving his house, an extraordinary ability to compensate for a player acting alone (probably serial killer). I fail to see an Aussie connection, though.

Callister was probably killed by the Animal Mafia, as has been mentioned, but I wouldn't rule out an evil cult.

    Best wishes for MadMax.

Yeah, there's a lot of tennis players in Australia... My first thought was Mark Philipoussis because he serves really strong, but all the names sweetwater mentioned could work, too.

I personally thing Aussie tennis is EVIL, because in the Australia vs Spain Davis Cup Finals, THEY BLEW THE SPANISH NATIONAL ANTHEM! And they put something really weird instead. GRRR. But I agree this could have no meaning for this game... though we obviously have a tennis player with killing powers

I know nothing about Australian tennis players; it kind of reminds me of Mats Vilander, who (I believe) killed someone in his youth with a service. But he is not Australian... As to the hatred, it may be a reference to the extreme-right political party in Australia. So the GF would be the woman who is heading the party, if I remember correctly.
