(Before I type the rest of this post, I'd like to point out that I have absolutely nothing against Damelon at this stage, I'd simply like to say a few things.)
Originally posted by Damelon: Personally I didn't vote for you because of anything you've done. First day someone has to go in the barrel. Typically there is no strong reason for it. And it sucks, I'm glad it's not me.
Yeah, I understand that. I'd like to hope it's not going to be me that gets the noose either. All my remark meant was that I'm aware my vote change and my new-found interest in avoiding my bandwagon may seem suspicious, but it's also a necessary thing in mafia - just like lynching someone.

If it comes to a point where I have to reveal my role or die, I will roleclaim then. As it stands, I'm in no rush. I also know that once my role is out in the open, I have to hope and pray that the doctor out there takes pity on me for the good of the town.

It's not that I'm not interested in the town winning. I'm a townie, of course I want the town to win. But right now, it looks like I may end up being bandwagoned, and so at the moment, doing something about that is my main priority.

Well, perhaps this:
vote: Quailman
One of the bandwagons needs forcing at this point and I am too lazy to count which is the biggest. Though the movie list was amusing.

Uh-huh. KD had three as of last count, Q had one. Now, one vote isn't a bandwagon. So one can only assume that you must have scanned the votes. However, there was only one vote and one unvote for Q after that. That's out of 7 votes and 4 unvotes. I think it's pretty amazing that you'd think Q has a "bandwagon" at that point (only 1 vote though).
I think it's extremely suspicious that you selectively missed that.

I'll keep my vote where it is until I see a more worthy target. Kd, you are right. It *does* look suspicious that you are suddenly all defensive. But seeing as you admitted it yourself, I'm not going to go on a rampage or whatever. I agree that we should wait for sweetwater to say something, but how long will it be? He (she?) has posted in another game I am in at the moment, and it's been since the last time I checked the mafia forum. *is too lazy to go check dates and times and the like* It looks a little weird to me. But no vote yet.
Anyway, Damelon makes a sad, but valid point. It has to be someone. I just hope it turns out okay. Themed games confuse me... all the smoke-and-mirrors stuff makes it hard to know what's real. Especially in something as broad as "movies"... even valid role claims are likely to be doubted. I'm hoping we don't get into the "bandwagon to force a role claim, then switch to the next unwitting victim" pattern, is all.
Anyway, I'm rambling and saying nothing of note, so I'll stop now. I just thought I'd better post something... I don't like lurking. Or lurkers. *has her eye on sweetwater* *in a bad way* |

I am hoping that the rule only applies with the majority, and that the six only applies at the time of the deadline. Did anyone else get to six today? It would probably go to that person first. - Never mind. I just checked. Kd only got to three.
But we need to lynch someone. |

Yes. Werebear is wrong. And hystrionic.
In the case of majority, that is the event which causes the lynch. The play is over at that point.
In the case of a deadline, that is the event which causes the lynch. Whatever happened before that matters little. |

Sam Spade - from which movie? I'm not very good with movies... why have some of you accepted sweetwater's claim without anyone saying 'Yup. It's the truth, here's the relevant link.'? Or am I just too young to instantly know what's going on?
Originally posted by Quail: But we need to lynch someone.
And it looks like it will be me... Like I've said before, a) I'm an innocent townie, and b) I don't feel a need to roleclaim to prove that yet either. If you're going to end up bandwagoning me for the sake of a bandwagon (now that sweetwater's been unvoted a few times, I have the most votes against me), then that's your choice. Like Mackay said, even valid role claims can be doubted, and that will probably turn out to work against me. |

The Maltese Falcon. A classic movie, full of backstabbing and intrigue. I'm really surprised you haven't heard of it!

Unvote: Sweetwater
My feeling is that Sam Spade (from The Maltese Falcon) is a famous enough detective role that there's a certain risk in falsely claiming it, because there'd be a good chance of the "real" Sam Spade coming out and denouncing you.
FOS: Mackay for emphasizing Kd's "defensiveness." Firstly, why wouldn't a person with a sizeable bandwagon on her head be defensive? Secondly, Kd's behavior is totally consistent with other games in which she's been a townie (and lynched despite her protests). That doesn't mean she's not now using it as a cover, but it doesn't automatically make her suspicious either.

Hitch: Before anyone else points this out, and uses it against me, I've never been lynched in a mafia game. I've been in 2 games before:
1) Clue Mafia. I was the cult leader, and I quit after an argument with Darkblade. I'm very sorry that happened, and it won't happen again.
2) Newbie Mafia. I was a townie, but the mafia won after 2 days, I think. I was still alive at the end.
So... yeah. |

Your reluctance could stem from your lack of knowledge of films (didn't know Sam Spade ~boggle~), thereby making you ineffectual at creating one (lieing). |

First thing first: Mackay, I am a he IRL. You joined the GL while I was away, so understandably you wouldn't know that. I'm very pleased to meet you, as well as the others who don't know me. As you can tell from my name, I am one of the nicest guys around here. Now please allow me to assuage your evileyeness towards me. I am Sam Spade (from Maltese Falcon): private detective with investigative powers, albeit limited. I can determine the role assigned to somebody, but I am not told whether the role is good or bad. Obviously I have to find that out myself. I am aligned with the town.
I don't carry any weapon, and so I can cause harm to no one, but that leaves me defenseless and a soft target to the evildoers. (I am already dead, only they haven't signed the death warrant.) All I have is this stupid camera, an excess baggage is all it is in fact, since I don't even know if the damn thing works. Didn't work last night, that's for sure. Perhaps it is in automode and fires when a crime is committed within snapshot, but one never really knows.
Anyway last night I discovered someone's role which I thought was innocent. Figuring that one out - the role's innocence - didn't require an excessive amount of skill nor wizardry. Of course, I could have been wrong, but that seemed highly unlikely, considering what I knew about the character. This character could help me, and by extension, the town.
So please reverse your votes now, and I'll pretend this nonsensical bandwagon did not happen. Thank you. |

Ok, I'll do my best to explain this for you.
The reason I suddenly became defensive was as follows: A deadline had just been imposed, and aside from sweetwater, I looked like a fairly promising candidate for the chop. After his roleclaim, (and I swear I've never seen the film) it became more apparent that I'm the suspect of choice for the rest of you. I don't think it odd that I should want to avoid my death. Admittedly, it was a sudden change, I don't deny that, but it was a change I think I had to make, considering the circumstances. Now, I don't want to be lynched, nobody ever does. I'm not just going to sit back and say 'Sure, bring the rope and I'll tie the knot myself'. I'm being defensive because I'm an innocent townie. As it stands, I still don't feel any need to prove my role... I'm up to what, 5 votes now... maybe later, if you're still feeling the need to vote for me.
And my blatant bandwagoning? True. I'll admit that I voted for sweetwater to get myself out of a tight spot. Unvote: sweetwater Terribly sorry about that.

Why thankyou. I actually rather like FOS. It gives me this funny mental picture of IS pointing at people and yelling 'Mafia Scum! Lynch Him/Her/It!'
And you have a fair point about the 'innocent townie' bit, Damelon. It's a DP game, after all. So maybe I should rephrase...
At this stage in the game, I am an innocent townie.
There. I think that's a little better.
