Paging Doctor Maximus...

Usually there is a backstory here. I'm not that creative for this one

Players
  1. boysavant
  2. CourtlandStorm
  3. KD
  4. Marvel Kid
  5. MillerTime
  6. Mog
  7. Sami
  8. Sawmill
  9. UnheardVoice

Bodies
Name - role
Someone - Townie
mrpimpj - Townie
Jamezue - Cop
Duphrates - Townie
Maximus - Doctor

Role Descriptions
Mafia - At night they decide who to kill and send a choice to me. May communicate by E mail BUT ONLY AT NIGHT.
Godfather - Leader of the mafia. As long as there is another mafia member alive the Godfather is immune to investigations by the cop.
Cop - Each night the cop can investigate one person. I will tell him/her whether that person is innocent or guilty.
Doctor - Each night the doctor can choose one person to protect. If that person is attacked by the mafia, they will survive. The doctor can not choose him/herself.
Townie - The good people of the town. No special abilities.

Basic Structure of a game
  • The game will begin with night. On the first, and only on the first, night I will email each player telling them what their role is.
  • During the game's nights, everyone who has to do so sends me an E-mail. Do not post anything relevant during the night.
  • In the "morning" I announce the events of the night.
  • During the daytime you discuss and vote to kill someone. I will announce beforehand how many votes are required for killing.
  • When the day is over, either by lynching or deadline, night falls and the cycle begins again.
  • The mafia wins when they've eliminated all the townspeople. The townspeople win when they've eliminated all the mafiosi.

These are DP's basic rules. They are to be followed in EVERY game you play here, or at mafiascum, unless the mod says otherwise.

[1] Have fun and don't be a jerk.
[2] No communication outside the thread unless your role allows you to do so.
[3] Get your choices in before the deadlines. If not, a random choice will be made for the first night, and no choice for subsequent nights.
[4] No quoting my or others emails.
[5] If you're dead YOU'RE DEAD. No more posting relevant information after that.
[6] Lynching will be done by regular majority. If I impose a day deadline, lynching will require at least half of the regular majority. In case of a tie, first come first served.
[7] Only votes in BOLD will be counted. Please clearly unvote if you want to change your vote.
[8] Do NOT edit or delete your posts! If you made a coding error, just post again.

The following are rules that may vary from mod to mod. These are my personal rules that are used in addition to the basics.

[1] All nights will have a 72 hour deadline, unless I say otherwise.
[2] All day deadlines will be no less than 48 hours. No day will begin with a deadline. If I feel a deadline is needed, the first may be repealed if activity warrants it, the second will not.
[3] If you're going to be gone with no computer access for any length of time, please inform me, preferably via email or the thread. If the time you'll be gone is rather long, please have a temporary replacement lined up if you can find one.
[4] All players must make at least 1 post per game day unless absent (absent = gone and telling me so). I prefer more posts, and will usually bug you a lot if you insist on posting the minimum.
[5] In this, or any other game I am modding, for all intents and purposes, I AM GOD! If you have a problem with me, or how I am running the game, take it up with me via IM or email, any posts not relevant to the game will be deleted.
[6] Contrary to popular belief, I'm not a mean mod. I may be evil but I'm not mean. Ask any questions you may have and I will answer them. You may not be satisfied with the answer, but some questions cannot be answered without corrupting the game. So don't ask me if somebody is telling the truth, or who the mafia is

The town's inhabitants wake up, eat some breakfast, and open the Sunday paper in what appears to be an ordinary morning. Then the shrill cry of "SOMEONE HAS BEEN KILLED!"

Everybody rushes to the sound of the voice. Some of you sheepishly get up off the floor and exit your houses via the door instead.

"Who was it? Who's dead?"

"Someone!"

"Duh! What was their name?"

"No, really! It was Someone. Someone has been killed!"

"Who?"

"No! Who's on first!"

"What?"

"He's on second, and Someone is dead."

"Oh."

Well, one murder does not a worry warrant, however, soon after somebody's hot dog stand was pushed over. Obviously this is the work of a deadly mafia family! SOMEBODY MUST HANG FOR THIS!

Someone, townie, has been killed. It is now day. With 13 alive, that makes 7 to lynch.

I forgot to mention that roles are assigned in a completly random fashion. I use excel to keep track of game information, and when assigning roles, I use the =rand() function and sort by the numbers generated to determine who gets what role.

Thank you, Jamezu. Yes, please. Gosh, I must have snored loudly and waked everybody up last night. (Now you know where the handle "Sawmill" comes from. )

You can live in a town for ages and think you know all your neighbors, but let Someone provide an excuse, and all at once they're at your door trying to drag you off to the hangin' tree. There's no reason to pick on me (unless its the snoring). If someone is acting suspiciously, it's Marvel Kid or Jamezu for rolling out the bandwagon so fast. (Oh, wait, Someone can't act suspiciously, he's dead.)

Well, if we don't bandwagon how is anybody going to get lynched? I thought it was bad etiquite to not lynch anyone, right? and from what I heard nobody gets any serious information except the popos anyway, and since that could take days, which in real time is like weeks and weeks, we might as well do something. at least maybe it will get people talking more.

If we're not going to bandwagon can we at least start telling stories?

I think the popos are the cops, but it's not a very polite term as far as I know. At least that's what I gather from driving with my brother.

I think its a more polite form of saying cop. Instead of having to say Police Officer, you just say popo. Then you are not spending so much time talking, but you are also not being rude. It's like a nick name

I guess I've just heard it spoken by rude people then - as in, they use "popo" in the same context as "piggies" and "the honky patrol."

Ok, just so we don't end up running out of time before we lynch someone...

Vote: Sawmill just because s/he currently has the most votes. But if it turns out we should be after someone else for better reasons, then I'll change it.

Since the deadline has been imposed and we have to lynch someone, I will go with Unheard Voice and unvote: Duphrates and vote: mr. pimpj for being quiet. There is never any information on the first day, so we may as well lynch someone who's not enriching the game.

I will still FOS: Duphrates based on my one mafia experience (Newbie 6). I did exactly what MarvelKid did (was the second to vote on Day 1, and voted for the same person as the first voter), because that's what newbies do, and immediately got accused and voted for by people who turned out to be mafia members.

Yes, I know - and sorry, I forgot that rule until too late. (Once you've done it, though, you can't undo it.)

I would like an explanation of the rationale for the rule. What harm does it do to edit a posting, especially if you are only fixing a one-character typo?

Later in the game, you might want to go back and look over the posts of other players, to look for evidence in their voting patterns or whatnot. If they are allowed to edit, mafia could easily eliminate anything suspicious after the game's conditions change.

ie. I could be a mafia pretending to be a cop, and tell everyone that I thought SaberKitty was mafia. Then we lynch her, and it turns out that she's actually innocent. I shouldn't be allowed to go back and edit my post so that it doesn't look like I was the one who got her lynched.

Okay, I think we've had ample time to post, but it seems some people haven't - therefore, FOS Maximus and mr.pimpj for not saying anything the entire game. Before I cast my vote, I want to give these two time to explain their lack of noise and such.

Currently, townies outweigh mafia (presumably). So lynching someone at this stage is more likely to get a townie lynched.

However, I agree that mr.pimpj is not participating at the moment, so would be no loss if he is lynched.

So I will UNVOTE: Sawmill and VOTE: mr.pimpj

I think we should give mr.pimpj until just before the deadline at least, before anyone else votes for him. If he doesn't speak up then he'll get lynched anyway with the majority (I think). He only needs one more vote for lynching.

ahem
New game, fell through the cracks.

KD, I'm not in the mood for snobbish comments like that. Yes, I did note the at the end. I make post vote counts when I feel it's time for one. At that time, I felt there wasn't enough for confusion, but all you had to do was ask and I'd have done one right there.

As for my delay asking if players were reading. I recieved all role confirmations, and took that as an indication they were going to follow. Obviously it appears I was wrong, and for that, I apologize.

Before any of you ask, no, this wasn't a good day either, and yes, I've been in a horrible mood lately. No, I shall not be like this for the entire game.

As always, feel free to point out that I can't count so that I can fix the vote markers. What you see in these counts reflects exactly what shows in my spreadsheet (except the order of names )

5 mr.pimpj (Jamezu, MillerTime, Sami, Sawmill, UnheardVoice)
3 Sawmill (boysavant, KD, MarvelKid)
2 MarvelKid (CourtlandStorm, Duphrates)
