Small Mafia: Town wins

In a small town in the Sicilian countryside (it's so small that you can't even find it on a map) the local townspeople have decided that it is time to get out from under the rule of the local mafia family. However, they do not know which members of their community are working with the mafia and which are innocent civilians. They decide that they will figure it out somehow, even if they have to kill a few of those innocents along the way. The mafia find out about their plan, and decide to eliminate the townspeople and confiscate their land and possesions.

As the sun rises over Sicily, the members of this small community meet in the town square to decide how to go about ridding their community of the evil Mafia that has been ruling over them for years. But to their surprise, not everyone makes it to the meeting. MacadamiaN and Dragon Phoenix are nowhere to be found. A search of the town finds MacadamiaN shot in the head while he was sleeping. Dragon Phoenix's body is found floating in the river on the outskirts of town. However, his head is still missing. The town is outraged by the brutality of these murders, and decides the only fitting punishment is lynching. They work quickly to set up a gallows, then look around suspiciously at one another as they decide who shall be the first to hang...

It is Day, with 13 alive, 7 to lynch

First, Hitman is most certainly not a confirmed innocent.
Second, if you ARE a townie, Hitman, did it occur to you that you just made the mafia's choice of targets easier, probably reducing tonight's choice from 2:7 to 2:6? If we assume one doc and one cop (not at all a sure thing), they now have a 1/3 chance of nailing one, thanks to you. Townies may not have specially named roles, but they're important.

Anyways.. Vote: Sparticus for "It is common for a newbie mafia member to kill a veteran on the first night." If he is mafia, he could've made the kill, and easily blame it on a newbie as a newbie tactic.

I have been previously tormented by newbies who win mafia by claiming innocent then saying almost nothing for the rest of the game. So that makes me suspicious of Hitman, who fits that description. Vote: Hitman. (Yes, it is a lame reason, but nothing else will help us advance anyway.)

Posh. In my first mafia game, I was a member of the mafia, and I played innocent rather well, I think. I never even received a single vote until the day I was lynched, although I did get an FOS. Newbs can't just think we'll go easy on them just cause it's their first/second game. We'll go a little easier, but not easy.

(BTW: Hitman was actually a purely random vote, but I just wanted to find a reason to justify it.)

With this little information, we can only speculate whether Hitman is scum or not. Guessing that he is mafia is just mostly random.
