Role Descriptions
Mafia - At night they decide who to kill and send a choice to me. May communicate by E mail BUT ONLY AT NIGHT.
Godfather - Leader of the mafia. As long as there is another mafia member alive the Godfather is immune to investigations by the cop.
Cop - Each night the cop can investigate one person. I will tell him/her whether that person is innocent or guilty.
Doctor - Each night the doctor can choose one person to protect. If that person is attacked by the mafia, they will survive. The doctor can not choose him/herself.
Townie - The good people of the town. No special abilities.

Rules a la DP

• During the game's nights, everyone who has to do so sends me an E-mail.
  
• Do not post anything relevant during the night.
  
• In the "morning" I announce the events of the night.
  
• During the daytime you discuss and vote to kill someone. I will announce beforehand how many votes are required for killing.
  
• It is my prerogative to set a time limit on the voting; I will announce that at least 24 hours before the limit expires.
  
• Under no circumstance are you allowed to show any E-mails from me or others.
  
• Please do not discuss this game via AIM, E-mails (unless you are mafia, and then only when it is night) or IRL.....
  
• If you are dead, you are dead. Do not post any information afterwards.
  
• The moderator (that's me) is always right; you may not like it, but mods put a lot of effort in creating and moderating the game and their decision should be final.
  
• Anyone who does not post at all for a period of 96 h in this game (excluding game's nights) will be replaced. All players (mafia and town) are free to alert me if such a situation occurs and I miss it.

I don't think so. It's just used to highlight mischievious arguments, and one can never be certain if it was intentional or not. It is presumed intentional, but ...
And i think this was used more as a (TM)!

In the DiscWorldMaf (was @ http://www.greylabyrinth.com/Forums/Forum9/HTML/000695.html but got deleted) won by Sam Lepton came out early as a cop and made the town lynch a person. That person proved to have a good role, but Lepton was not lynched the next day, for the (i can't be sure if it was the only) reason that he's a paranoid cop. So it was somewhat successfull, but it depends on the players' mood and on the information available, if any.

IfI RecallCorrectly, every player has to be active during each day, or he is out of the game. Or something like that.

Lepton was a member of the City Watch (along with Luna, and Eykir and I), who could visit someone's house each night and arrest any murderers who happened to be there. He wasn't paying any attention to the game because he has a real life, so he misread the email and thought he was a cop.

I don't know that those are the kinds of questions that are paramount Werebear. I would think procedural questions would be foremost on a newbies mind. But I'll answer them anyway.

1. Crap Logic™ was originated by Antrax. Its correct meaning is logic that is appealing, yet false. It has been argued that mafia tend to use Crap Logic™ to get their enemies lynched. Some people tend to think that bad logic is Crap Logic™. They are wrong.
   
2. Lepton's Gambit: As mafia, claim someone is guilty and get them lynched. If they are guilty, continue. If they are innocent, claim insanity. Either way a win/win. I proposed the idea that his actions in DW were a gambit because I was trying to get him lynched. And as they say, the truth is stranger than fiction.
   
3. Verbose means excessive talking. I don't care for verbose mafias, I care for participatory mafias.
   
4. Yes. Heart attacks for those who don't.

I'm such a newbie I'm not even entirely sure on the difference between Day and Night. Day is the chitchat in the thread, plus voting and so on, but Night is thread silence and lots of e-mail and AIM as cops investigate and mafia decide who to kill? Or am I way off base?

I did some number crunching and I believe that set up gives close to 50/50. I could be wrong though.

All roles were determined randomly.

We begin with day. With 17 people, 9 votes are required to lynch. No deadline at this time.
