Mafia 46: The Blind Leading...

The legend goes that in Sicily a rather eccentric inventor, known only to the various Townspeople, Mafia families, and various craftsmen as "Bob," spent years working on a device to determine the true allegiance, craft, or profession of any given human being. Such a device would, when used on an ordinary Townsperson, determine if they were secretly one of the evil Mafia, a helpful Doctor or Cop, or exactly what they seemed to be.

Unfortunately, the device, when tested, worked perfectly but had one side effect: it did not announce a result unless the subject was already dead. Something about 'brain waves' disturbing the eqilibrium. No one really asked; they only laughed at Bob and put the device away, certain that they would never be in a situation where they couldn't figure out someone's allegiance by searching their home, their clothing, or their motives.

Until now.

A mysterious disease swept through a healthy Sicilian community and wiped out almost everyone, leaving a Town with population 12. Adding insult to injury, none of them could remember a thing about their allegiance or profession. Checking the Town records, the Town determined that there were 4 Mafia, 3 Masons, 2 Cops, 2 Doctors, and 1 innocent Townie.

There was only then one thing in the minds of the helpless citizens: if nothing else, the Mafia must be destroyed...unless I'm Mafia. But common sense (I'm more likely to be Town than Mafia) ruled, and the Town sent for Bob's device, determined to lynch by day and act randomly by night, using Bob's wondrous invention to determine the roles of the dead.

And in this rather embarrassing setup, Mafia 46 began...

Special Rules

The Masons of this community weren't really Masons, but Monks with a vow of silence about anything pertaining to themselves or the other members of their order. For good reason. Anyone mentioning another's name in association with Masonry was immediately struck down from above by a large lightning bolt.

(All of you received an email with the words: "You might be a Mason. If you are, X and Y are also Masons." Since only the real Masons received correct information, it is not permissible to have everyone post the names they received and to examine who matches up. You may not reveal the names you received in your email. Anyone who does so will be fried by a lightning bolt. You may, if you wish, say "I am a Mason," or "I am not a Mason," or "Joe isn't a Mason," or whatever. Just be secretive about your fellow Masons - you might actually be innocent.)

Morning dawns on what is left of the small Sicilian town...and the Town finds Tyenar, a confused expression on his face, dead in his home, shot by a stray bullet. There is a message on the wall.

"Oops, I killed you, guess I must be Mafia, only problem is, I don't know who I am, and I don't know who you are either."

The Town tries to gain any information from this, but fails. Shortly they set up Bob's device and scan the deepest recesses of Tyenar's brain.

They find a knowledge of investigatory techniques and a love of doughnuts.

Tyenar, Cop, has been killed by the Blind Mafia. It is now DAY 1. 6 to lynch.

Uhh, isn't there a problem with this game's setup? A mason could just say "X isn't a mason, Y isn't a mason..." until everyone BUT the masons are left. It's like revealing your mason friends.
