On the radio this morning, the DJ mentioned a band that's coming to my town soon. I had to hurry into work after hearing this announcement because I noticed a peculiarity about the band's name: if you were to speak this band's name in various conversations, another person would think of a different entity/person/activity. The band name has a unique meaning in the following conversations:
1. music
2. movies (movie title)
3. politics
4. sports (think American instead of European)

What's the name of the band and who/what would I think you're talking about in each of the above conversations?

Sting comes close, but not quite there.

1. music - Sting (Police lead singer)
2. movies - The Sting
3. politics - a sting operation
4. sports - too much of a stretch and it would be redundant with #3, since Webster's defines a "sting" as an elaborate confidence game; specifically : such a game worked by undercover police in order to trap criminals

Well, here's two half goes,
Wings
1. music - Paul Macartney's band
2. movies (movie title)-Hmmm
3. politics - Left or Right depending on politics
4. sports - Left or Right depending on side of field

Also

Reds
Can't do music
Remember a Movie called Reds
Communists are Reds
Manchester United (amongst others) are the Reds

I think you might be at a disadvantage, Pigboy, given your Manchester United guess. Think American (rather than European) for sports.

Good one, piggy! Wings (1927) starred Clara Bow and a young Gary Cooper.

I guess Wings could be it, so Quail gets a point of extra credit for checking the IMDB. But the movie I am thinking of was from the 1990's, not the 1920's.

I think this is the most replies any of my threads have ever received. I feel like Sally Field at the Oscars...

We Americans are that way. I'm not sure if it's egotistical or just ignorance. (Also how we call ourselves Americans. What about South Americans?) If you had to pick one USA sport to focus on here, I'd delve mostly into American football.

WINNER!
1. Rush is coming to my town in August for a radio's 25th anniversary party.
2. Rush with Jason Patric and Jennifer Jason Leigh
3. Rush Limbaugh
4. The defensive move in American football: "rush"ing the quarterback.
