not quite.

he's not going by squares, but by powers of 2: +1, +1, +2, +2, +4, +4, +8, +8, etc.

17, 25, 33, 49, . . .

It could be either answer, they both work

The answer isn't the only answer. An answer is a true answer if it, indeed, is true.

the answer of adding powers of two was correct, when we were given just the first five numbers. with the addition of your additional numbers, it became incorrect.

your sequence is now:

3, 4, 5, 7, 9, 13, 15, 19, 21, 25, 31, 33, 39, 43, 45, 49, 55, 61, . . .

which are:
the prime numbers +2 (except that '3' shouldn't be in the list, as '1' is not a prime number.
