The Cannonball Run is a race across the United States. This year will have an Asian flair, as the contest will go from NOBU restaurant at 105 Hudson Street, New York, NY to the OTHER NOBU restaurant in 903 North La Cienega Boulevard, West Hollywood, CA. I hope you all like sushi!
Each player should give me the exact directions their car will take from the beginning address to the ending address. Google Maps is nice for this; you can click & drag your route. Some additional rules:
1. You do not need to fill up on gas or sleep. The cars are electric, can drive for a month without recharging, and play nothing but "Running Down a Dream" to keep you awake.
2. Submit the make, model, & color for your vehicle. This is only for flavor.
3. Cars will travel at set speeds:
Interstate - 100mph
U.S. Highway - 75mph
State & County Highway - 50mph
Surface Streets - 25mph
4. When multiple cars are on the same road at the same time (even if one is on I-5 in Washington and one is on I-5 in California), their speeds are divided by the number of cars on that road. If they are on the same road at different times, there is no penalty.
5. Cars may place three "Cannonballs" at any intersection along their route (although Cannonballs may not be placed in the states of New York or California). Any car that subsequently runs over a Cannonball is delayed for 5 hours making repairs.
6. Cars may not violate rules of the road (i.e. wrong way down a one-way street, shortcuts across farmland).
7. Intentional efforts to make computation difficult on me (i.e. ferries through the Panama Canal, spinning through a D.C. roundabout for 45 minutes, multiple trips down Lombard Street, etc.) may result in arbitrary and embarrassing penalties.
8. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police were afraid to have the race in their country, and are threatening harm with retired professional wrestlers and horses. Any racer in Canada will be trampled by a horse, then put in a submission hold.
9. I could not get permission to conduct this race through Mexico, and the Federales have threatened to shoot any racers on sight.
10. First car to arrive at the destination wins.
11: Watch out for any errors I may make in routes, this is a daunting task, and i may make some mistakes. Even though it is a single submission game, I encourage all participants (and onlookers!) to follow along!
If there are any additional questions, let get them out of the way now, and I'll update the rules. This is single entry in the sense that you have nothing further to do once your route has been submitted, but I urge some careful thought be put into your route.

| The sad part is that the Lepercar was still in worse shape than the car that I've been assigned. The hood flew off if the wind speed exceeded 50 MPH, the two rear doors didn't open (and the inside handle of the one was actually torn off in an attempt to open the door); two of the windows couldn't be rolled down and one couldn't be rolled back up without someone pushing up on the window, and the bumpers/hood/trunk were held in place by bungee cords and wire hangers... |

Pics, and I'll change it. The colors of the "cars" as you'll see later on this week just correspond to the lines on the map. There will be a lot of photoshopping throughout this competition though which will be nice.

ANNND…….THEY’RE OFF!
As all of the racers line up on the starting gate in front of NOBU, we can see a problem, but before the officials can do anything, the race starts! Immediately grinding to a near halt, all 7 racers go up Hudson Street at a lightning fast speed of 3.5 miles an hour! All jammed between the buildings, you can see the sparks, blood, and concrete flying in the air, and people running for their lives! OH THE HUMANITY!
This is a shot of the Aftermath just two days later:
NYC SOUTH:
Thankfully, MattV, Quail and Courk Turn on to Moore Street, ending the hell that was the beginning of the race. 12:00:30 pm
At the Corner of Moore St. at Greenwich St., MattV and Courk turn off and thus allow Quail to go on himself to Rt 9A. 12:01:06pm
Quail finds free highway and opens up his Horizon’s motor to 50 Miles an hour on Rt 9A! 12:01:20pm He looks like he is going to the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel as he takes his Car down 9A. He arrives to the Entrance of Brooklyn Tunnel at 12:01:50PM.
While this happens, MattV and Courk battle down Greenwich Street until Courk flies around the Corner of Frankllin Street. It seems like Courk isn’t driving, but rather the Manatee has taken the wheel! Where is Courk Going??? 12:01:19pm
MattV looks like he is going toward the Brooklyn Bridge to get out of NYC: He is at the entrance at 12:03:10pm
While Quail and MattV are waiting in line for their tolls, On-site reporter Jimmy the Greek was able to get a few words from MattV.

Back at Hudson Street, the other four racers are creeping at 6.25 Miles an hour up the street all looking to get on the Holland Tunnel. They all make it to the Ramp at 12:02:25PM
It looks like Lex is taking another route out of the city as he doesn’t get on the Tunnel ramp, instead opting to go straight. His poor AeroCar can no longer fly as at the starting gate the wings were ripped off by the other cars. It seems like Lex Is taking the Lincoln Tunnel instead. He makes it there on his own at 12:03:43PM
But what’s this? Raekuul Turns Left onto Canal Street instead of going right onto the Tunnel ramp! Oh what a blunder! I think he’s lost! He turns right onto Route 9A, and stops long enough to try and figure out where he is at. 12:02:55pm While He is there, another one of our many On-site reporters get’s a word with Raekuul:

Rae tosses a quarter out the window and speeds off |
After our Interview, Rae decides to stay on 9A and see where it leads. It’s as if he isn’t even in a race! It takes him 6 minutes before he figures out that The George Washington Bridge does take him out of NY and gets in line for the toll at 12:08:55pm.
Meanwhile Courk’s Manatee has decided that she will be taking one of the longest ways out of NYC by taking a very zig-zag like route. AHA! It looks like the manatee is going right to Rosendo Fish Market at 342 E 22nd St! Courk takes the wheel after the manatee comes out of the market and makes it to the FDR at 12:14:50pm.
How is she going to make up for the manatees’ detour and love of seafood? Where are all the other racers at that time? Where is MattV’s body? We will find out in the next installment!
Notes: First some of you were on the wrong side of NOBU, so i moved your routes a bit. It didn't change much, just that some people had to go around the block. Also, from what I wee it looks like there will be a clear winner, so this part of the race won't matter too much. That being said let me know of any big mistakes I have made, or if your route doesn't seem right.lastly, any quotes, destinations on your route, or anything like that can be PM'ed to me and I'll put them in the race somewhere. The First Cannonball…
Jedo and Monk are fighting through the Holland tunnel when the border of NY-NJ comes up and Jedo gets his first cannonball ready to toss out. The Monk swerves around the ball, but it hits the indiscriminate car behind him, which punts the cannonball right into the roof of the tunnel!
As the tunnel cracks and implodes, Jedo races ahead of the oncoming tidal wave from the tunnel hole but Monk is not able to make it! He is washed away, effectively sidelining him for a long, long time.
Jedo, pours the metal on, and makes it to the I78 –I95 exchange at 12:08 exactly. Here’s a report form our local affiliate:

When Jedo makes it to that exchange he sees someone coming from up North: A wingless AeroCar. Lex's car is quite far off in the distance though, and doesn't make it to where Jedo was at the I78-I95 exchange untill 12:30:23PM.
BRRROOOKLYN!!
In the south side of Brooklyn there seems to be more competition to get out of NY into NJ. Quail and Mattv, have found themselves on I278, dunking out while slowing each other down. Quail gets the better of the mini duel and flies ahead and after putting the metal down, makes it to I95 at 12:17:38PM. Mattv smirks as he turns off onto State Route 440 at 12:21:20pm.
In the Middle Of nowhere....
Meanwhile Rae finds his way onto I-95 with a map in his hand, with one foot on the wheel, and clearly distracted. He finally figures out where he is going, and looks ahead to the I80 interchange that he is about to get on. He makes it there at 12:12:15pm. We have no clue where Courk is right at this moment, so the search continues!.
Both Rae and Courk are taking the leisurely routes this time, will it pay off? Will this competition destroy the Untied States? Will Jedo Stop Swearing? We will find out next time, on the GL Cannonball Run!
Notes about the update: First, I apologize for this is taking so long, but I think it will get easier as time progresses. This update was really bad, due to a few routes crossing over, i had to redo the routes about three times due to people being on roads at different times which made the dominoes fall a little bit differently. Courks route I decided not to update until the next time, but it is on the southern tier map.

So if this game is ever run again--
Make it so that the speed at which a player travels on a road dependent on the total number of players who traveled on that road at any time.
So if I get on I-5 and take the next exit off, the entire stretch of I-5 would be forever slower. This would make the computations much easier and might encourage more turns and switching roads. |
