As I have no quiz questions set up as yet (probably nothing until the new year) I think I might have a go at running another rules game. Hopefully it won't be as insane as the previous one..and no, that's NOT a challenge for prospective players!

The current champion is MatthewV.
==========================

Current players

Jack_Ian Winner
jbvntx
DMTsurel (resigned)
Zag
Amb
Sentran (resigned)
Mathgrant
MatthewV (resigned)

Rules, stolen and rehacked from binary digits and then copy/pasted from the last rules game.

This game is in progress, attempt 2.

All rules must be posted within 72 hours of the last rule posted, or 96 if it includes a weekend. The deadline will be rounded up to the nearest hour.
I will not personally buzz anyone for tardiness, but anybody else, even non-players, may.
If there is a reason worthy of an time extension, tell me before the deadline expires. Time will also be flexible around holidays and breaks. I will try to PM a reminder when you have about 24 hours left.

Your rule must follow itself and all the previous rules in that round. Players must go in the order in which they are listed. I'll try to keep the current and next players in the thread title whenever I get a chance to update
When a player breaks a rule, they are buzzed, that player is thrown out, all rules are declared invalid, and a new round begins: the next player in line posts the new Rule #1. After 72 hours from its posting a rule is immune to new buzzes. Whether a buzz is upheld is at my discretion, although I will listen to any arguments. Play should continue as normal whilst a buzz is being argued about.

Any player may challenge the last person who posted a rule. The rulemaker must then post another rule that meets all current rules, including their own, as though it was any future rule nominated by the challenger. If she can't do it she will be buzzed, if she can then the challenger will get a warning. 2 warnings will result in a buzz.

A player who posts a rule after the invalid one, but before the invalid one is buzzed, will not be penalized. However, that player's rule (along with the previous ones) will be voided when the new round begins.

Editing or deleting any post in this thread (except this one!) will result in a buzz. Don’t do it.

Any player may ask for a plain-English interpretation of a rule, if it is reasonable to believe that it is not clear. The clock will be reset once it is provided. Failure to provide one within 72 hours will result in a buzz to the rule maker.

Please do feel free to "buzz" anyone you catch breaking a rule, even if you are not actually playing.

Ambiguous rules will be given the tougher interpretation for the rulemaker, and the lenient one for the other players. In general, though, if the intent of your rule is clear from the way you have followed it then, if valid, that interpretation will be accepted.

All rules will cease to be binding after 25 subsequent rules (i.e the 26th rule does not need to obey the 1st, although you can if you like. This enables people to use limited lists as part of their rule without immediately being challenged)

Unless prohibited by a rule your posts may be any length. You may not make a rule, however, that would force other player's rules to be less than 15 or greater than 400 words.
Rules may not force players to only post at certain times of day.
Rules may not change any of the rules in this post.
Rules must impose a restriction on yourself.
Please put only your rule in a post. Double post if you must say something beyond. Signatures are not considered part of a post.
Buzzes and warnings may also be issued for jerkish behavior but I presume that will be unnecessary.

Please don't try to hide your rule submission in the clutter of posts. Your submitted rule must be easy to recognise as a rule rather than a casual post.

(A request, not a rule: Please don't let your rules get bogged down by English language grammatical minutiae. It doesn't make for a fun game, for either players or mod)

If rulemaking has started during signups, every post should include a parenthetical (I was assuming the rulemaking hadn't started yet, and that Amb and MatthewV were trashtalking boZos).

Thanksgiving? Is that some American version of Christmas? Confused

People have had a week to sign up and so I plan to launch the game later today. We have 8 players and that should be enough. If we get a move on it should be finished before Christmas...

I'll randomise the player list and get the game started around noon today.

MatthewV is the current champion...but will he survive this time?

OK, the game has started. I've listed the players in random order. Try and keep the game moving.

I'm never around at weekends, but just continue playing and buzzing and I'll pick up the pieces on the following Monday. Let's try and get this completed before Christmas.

Good Luck.

Yes, Thanksgiving is holiday celebrated in Alaska and the United States. It is a good holiday that doesn't have excessive amounts of commercialism. In some ways, I think retail stores are trying to push it out to give Christmas an extra month. The reason for eating a delicious turkey should be overshadowed by the idea of friends and family coming together to have a good time. For the rules game, every rule must mention a bird. This giving spirit warms the heart and fills the belly.

Maybe we could accept a compromise-- I didn't read the first post because it looked the same as before. Which effectively did what I was intending with hiding a rule inside a normal looking post! But I will still contend that such ideas are perfectly valid for this game and that the moderator doesn't have to be responsible for checking every rule.

Every rule needs four sentences. Counting the words in each sentence is important. Guarantee words in sentence equals letters in first word. Eagles are really cool, you know.

Just to confirm. As moderator, I have to keep track of the (stupid) rules you lot make. Concealing them doesn't make my job easier and it slows down the game.

Tecnically, you also broke...

Considering the number of words in a sentence may become tedious. Well, at any rate... Swallowing your pride and observing proper grammar is my rule. Swallow is a bird, is it not?

Well spotted. Sentran, would you like to consider a different rule (your call if you want to stick with this) but I'm likely to allow anything to pass EXCEPT another rule from you...

Buzz? An ellipse doesn't properly end a sentence, "swallowing" is not a proper noun, therefore there is no reason to capitalise it.

Not to mention that every rule must have four sentences, and one word per letter in the first word.

So for my understanding, was zag's really two rules? one required the number of sentences be 4 and one required the number of words in each sentence match the starting word length? Is it okay to bundle multiple restrictions like that? I just don't want to inadvertantly mess up my own rulemaking.

To avoid the buzzer and a defeated scream, all rules must have the name of an animal hidden in it backwards.

As a helpful gesture, edicts should denote the letters of the hidden animal by making each, a link to an image, unique to this game, of that animal.
