I've been working on this for years, but only now have I had the tools to make it worthwhile for a puzzle/game. Virtually every aspect, software, acquiring the movies, has been thanks to pointers from Logain. Thanks.

This game/puzzle is almost exactly like Logain's Guess the Movie game/puzzle. The obvious, and most important, distinction is that my clues are audio clues.

Here is what is important:
Each of these sound files are unique.
They are from one specific scene from one specific movie.
You may use any resource you want ONCE per set. It's an honor system. So feel free to abuse it, if you have no honor. Felicitous

Please PM me your guesses (like Logain's thread). However, when you PM me...tell me the movie and a decent description of the scene. If you get the movie, you get 1 pt. If you get the scene you get an additional 2 points.

Each set will be judged two weeks after I post it, including edits. A new set will be posted sometime before or after that.

If scene remains unguessed(scene or movie) after it is "open", it's points will increase sequentially (1, 2, 3, 4, etc).

Here is the first set (they're not large files anymore thank you sergio):
Game 1 War of the Worlds (2005) - Alien at the river
Game 2 Bladerunner - Gaff takes Deckard to the station
Game 3 Shawshank Redemption - Escape
Game 4 Game 4-2 Saving Private Ryan
Game 5 Game 5-2 Terminator

Second set
Game 6 Heat: The big shootout after the bank robbery.
Game 7 The Matrix: The helicopter rescue of Morpheus
Game 8 The Thing (JC's version): The end scene when they drink some liquor and wait to see what happens…
Game 9 The Day the Earth Stood Still: Klaatu has been shot and Gort is on the move.
Game 10 Groundhog Day: When Phil first enters the square for the other Phil's unveiling.

Third set
Game 11
Game 12
Game 13
Game 14

Since I post fewer movies at a time, you get fewer questions. I'll allow 2 to start with, just to see how it goes.

Questions allowed:
1) What year was gameX released?
2) What genre(s) (according to IMDB), is gameX?
3) Is my guess for gameX correct or wrong?
4) Name another movie that one of the lead actors was in.
Clarity: For any lead that I choose, I will only give THE movie where they played their biggest role (excluding the one in question).

It seems to me it should be the other way around...4 points for the movie, 1 point for the scene.

I think naming the movie is far easier than naming the scene. And sorry about the volume. I'm not sure what to do about that.

Headphones make it easy to hear though.

Checking on the volume, the original files had soft audio. I'm looking for other files with better audio.

Number 2 has displayed one of my difficulties. At least one of the people correctly identifying it has admitted doing so from google. It is the only one with recognizable words. Avoiding words is a huge restriction.

I want the piece to be recognizable and distinct. For example, many have recognized number 1 from its distictive noise. However, in that movie that sound occurs in at least 4 scenes. What else I included was to separate it from the rest.

I've had in my head that about 1/4 a minute is good for these. More than that and the file becomes too large for anyone without a highspeed connection and even too large for those with. It's been pointed out that there's empty space at the end which is a weird thing with audacity. I'll correct that momentarily.

So far 3 of the 5 have been successfully guessed. And two of those with the correct scene. For the other two, I think if I included 5 or so more seconds they will be guessed. I believe I'll do that.

Please keep up the suggestions.

lordkinbote = lk
naboo = nb
death mage = dm
baraka = bk
logain = lg
tony gardner = tg

Scores:
Game1: War of the Worlds (2005) - Alien at the river tg 1, lk 1, nb 1, bk 3, lg 1.
Game2 - Bladerunner - Google abounds! lk, tg, bk, dm 3 points. This is where Gaff takes Deckard to the station. The high frequency might have something to do with my known love of BR, but I doubt it.
Game3 - Shawshank Redemption - Escape nb 3 + 1, lg 3, scene and movie. I'm giving naboo an extra bonus point though (logain knows what he did)
Game4 - No good guesses, but I'm giving DM 1 point for the VU reference (in his guess)
Hint: this is an Oscar award winning war movie
Game5 - No guesses.
Hint: This is not an obscure movie. If you don't know this movie, you are not from our time.

naboo 5
baraka 4
death mage 4
logain 4
lordkinobe 4
tony gardner 4

I've decided that you can ask questions similar to the questions allowed in Logain's thread.

(I might be deliberately obtuse Felicitous )

I've decided that when someone correctly guesses a movie from a previous round, it will be immediately updated.

Movie 4: Saving Private Ryan -- Baraka
Movie 5: Terminator -- Logain, Sessie.

Still no scene on those.

There have been at least half a dozen more entries for Round 2. Many caught, some not. Felicitous

I know this is ancient but just cleaning up.
11. Full Metal Jacket. The scene where they go in after the sniper and find her.
12. Pulp Fiction. When Vinnie Vega picks up Mia Wallace
13. Aliens. Ripley shows off her mecha skills.
14. Dead Zone. The future that Smith sees when he touches Stilson's hand.

I know some of the earlier ones were a bit hard but these? Anyway, there ya go.
