This is really the most minor of things to bring up, I know. I was just wondering if this was something that could be added without too much trouble.
There's been many times I've stopped in to read posts, got down to the bottom of the page, and felt like responding to the last post. If I'm not logged in at the time, this means either scrolling back to the top or returning to the main forum page.
As I said, this is a very minor issue, but after a while one can't help wondering about the possibility of including the log-in option at the bottom of the page.
So--what do you say? Would this idea be easy to carry out? (No worries if it isn't.) |

Hitting "Post Reply" when not logged in, currently allows you to enter a username that will be accepted once it complies with GL rules.
Why not just add an optional password field here, so that you can then post with a valid username and edit the post later if necessary.
If the password field is empty then just revert to the original rule about anonymous usernames.
Adding something to the bottom of the page is unnecessary and would detract from the uncluttered, simple, beauty, that constitutes the current forum design.
What next? Blink tags? Avatars?
Nay I say! This is a slippery slope that we can not even contemplate.
What where you thinking? Are you trying to destroy the GL community?

Originally, that's how the GL worked.
Even when you were "logged in" it would show your username, and just auto-fill the password for you (from a cookie.)
It was very convenient for things like "IT" threads.
I don't see why we can't follow Jack's idea, and just allow the post to automatically post as the "currently logged-in user" (if any) or "the credentials provided."
I think it solves Coyote's problem and the problem of IT type threads with a common username. _________________ The enemy's base is down. |
