For those who like puzzle magazines, you've seen these before. For those that haven't, the rules are simple. You're given ten words, all related, that have had the same simple letter-replacement cipher applied to them. The goal is to unscramble the list, using the category as a clue to help you figure out the list. Well, I enjoy these puzzles, so I thought I'd make my own for you guys to try. The category is CBWZP OTAZF.
Oops, it appears that the category got encrypted too. *shrug* Oh well, good luck!

| I think there's a problem with: WPGJZU VPGO. It should be WPGJZU JPGO or WPGVZU VPGO. |

Wouldn't be one of my puzzles if it didn't have a typo in it, now would it? _________________ * These senseless ramblings brought to you by Insanity™. If you just can't figure the dang thing out, it must be Insanity™.

Since the first one seemed to work out, I went ahead and made a second.

So what do you guys think? Cryptoquizzes themselves are fairly easy, but I figured hiding the category as well would make them more challenging for you guys. Like, dislike? _________________ * These senseless ramblings brought to you by Insanity™. If you just can't figure the dang thing out, it must be Insanity™.

I liked the second one; it was about as challenging as I'm willing to do. (That is, I was about to give up when I had a breakthrough.) I still haven't figured out the first one, and I suspect I won't without a hint. But Loki got it, so it clearly isn't "too hard," just "too hard for Zag," which might still be pretty easy for others, here.
(Looking again, I'm amazed that Loki got it, since the mistake that he corrected is exactly where I had my breakthrough. If that had been messed up, I would have been sunk.) |

There are supposed to be 10 clues, so maybe you should have waited until they released 3 more.
Also, I had to look them up, sadly, as I had no frame of reference.
BUT, I did get about as far as I could go based off that last clue alone, and made substantial progress from there. So despite that, I feel proud of myself. _________________ * These senseless ramblings brought to you by Insanity™. If you just can't figure the dang thing out, it must be Insanity™.

Tradition upheld!!
In HTCZF CWPG CWOKZF
Note the C's that start the second and third words. These should be different. I believe that you are using C to represent two different letters throughout. Edit: Hmmm, I guess that the letter the first use of C is supposed to be is not used anywhere else, so my statement is technically accurate, but misleading.
Also, YTFKPW EQXTQZ should be YTFKPW EWXTQZ

For Loki's, you said that the last one was what gave it to you. I focused on that one, too, but all I got from it was
AHOS EM EAT EAOTQ = Hail to the Thief
Which I thought would be a really interesting parody song for a Libertarian, perhaps. But this didn't seem to lead anywhere for any of the other clues.
Maybe a hint? Also, I still haven't solved your first one, so I could use a hint there, too. |

All I'm going to say is you're on the right track.
From there, the next thing I got was the category.
As for my first one... I couldn't tell ya how to solve it. I tried putting in words with common groups of letters to help. Another trick is the first clue is usually the "most obvious" one with the category, the thing people will think of first. At least, that's how it's designed to be. Other than that, I can't help much. _________________ * These senseless ramblings brought to you by Insanity™. If you just can't figure the dang thing out, it must be Insanity™.

I didn't think Hail To The Thief was that obscure. Maybe I'm a creep.
For Death Mage's first one, the letter frequencies are pretty close to standard. Once I couldn't find a valid match where OTAZF and FZOT were valid words, I figured we're dealingwith proper nouns. XTH-ATG
is pretty unusual, too, most likely a repeated vowel sound. That makes TMTQB begin with VCV, with both T & M being common letter (11 & 6) occurrences: ARA, ASA, ATA, ALA, ANA, ERE, ESE, ETE, ELE, ENE. |

No, I'm just out of touch (a.k.a. a geezer). Also, I'm completely not into music whatsoever, so even if you had based it on something from my own generation I probably would not have recognized it. Anyway, I got it the rest of the way from DM's confirmation that I was on the right track. |

It's probably not obscure. As I said, it's just obscure to me. I think it was a good puzzle, after all, I was able to solve it. I ended up with enough information, but without knowing the proper series of words/phrases in that commonality, I had to look up some of them. _________________ * These senseless ramblings brought to you by Insanity™. I was going through another puzzle book, solving some of these again, and I came across one that was just awful. The answers were stretches, while many GOOD answers were simply lacking from the list. So I decided to make up a better list, and see if you guys could solve it.
Here's hoping I left out the typos this time...
