I didn't discover or rely upon that property, although I did figure the order probably wasn't random. Finding the right words wasn't so hard since you could narrow down what the first and last letters must be.

Very nice puzzle. I'll see if I can come up with something simple.

Not changing the password or taking over the thread, but here's a simple one to occupy you while El comes up with his. It was where I started with the last one, so they're more examples of the final part of the solving process from my last puzzle.

Hip-hop songs phone charged particles (5,10)
Give out your own neckwear (6,8)
Accomplishment, spice precipitation (4,6)
Release skinny ruler (2,8)
Interpret letters as words, barely competent (3,8)
Appeal certainly, not as much (3,5)

I have a quick one that I wrote during the boring wild card games. The answer is a SINGLE word.

=================

In our 4 decades of marriage, my spouse and I tried several times eating our morning meal together, but it was so unpleasant that we quit the practice.

A pal is anyone who hates the same people you do.

In reality, the Army holds less interest for me, daily. Perhaps the Church would be a better choice.

Dishonesty and sycophancy are in the same family.

America has no identifiable criminal class, unless you count Congress.

If you keep in mind that all people are nuts, confusion is gone and life is easier to understand.

To succeed in politics, one must be able to predict the future a day, a week, and a month in advance. Plus one needs the ability to explain later why it didn't come about.

As long as you don't lie, you won't have trouble keeping your story straight.

Most guys hold up in tough times, but to test someone's character, give him some power.

Hmmm. I thought mine would go more quickly.

Here is one of them, and this site was used for them all (though I have second-sourced most of them).

I would never have got it without the pointer to the quote site but:
these are slightly paraphrased quotes from brainyquotes.com If you use the initial letter of the original quotes (all from one of Abraham Lincoln, Winston Churchill or Mark Twain) it spells 'MARKTWAIN' Taking the initials of just the Twain quotes produces an anagram of 'wit'
Very nice! Did you consider spelling 'SAMCLEMENS' or similar?

I did, but I wanted to have a second step in solving, and then I realized that the letters of the final answer I wanted to arrive at were within the intermediate answer I ended up using. Did you notice that there are exactly three quotes from each of the people?

I had thought that it was solvable without the hint, because I threw in a couple that I felt were pretty common -- at least, I had already heard them -- and I hoped that people would catch on to the theme.

You could possibly have adjusted the paraphrasing so that using the initials of the paraphrased Twain quotes still spelled out the desired word - that would have made a very nice echo between using the translated quote with the translated author's name! Felicitous

I think it worked great. I recognized some quotes immediately but thought the wording was a bit off (so I didn't need your hint, really), so I'd say you achieved what you aimed for.

Looking up the original quotes and listing them out was the first thing I was planning to do if I were to find time to sit down with the puzzle.
