Welcome to an earless page 87.
I was image googling for the cover of the single "Forbidden colours"- and the third pic coming up is Bambi's painting of the same name. _________________ My photography:

Teaching high school science, in (thankfully) English.
I got the job, too.
That ear picture was horrible. Ugh. |

| No, the spine was completely loose from the pages. The cover was still attached to the spine, and the cover was still attached to the pages. Does that make sense? I'm sure it was a binding error since this happened shortly after I got the book, it's just taken me a while to get around to fixing it. The spine isn't stiff now, but at least I don't feel like the book could fall apart as easily. |

| I taped up a library book that I had borrowed. I nicked the tip of a finger a few months ago and thought it had stopped bleeding, but I got some blood on the page of a book. I tried to wipe it off with a damp paper towel but the water soaked into the page and caused the towel to tear the page. I let it dry, taped it up with invisible scotch tape, and returned it. No one came after me so I guess I got away with it. I thought I had wiped blood off of paper in the distant past but maybe that was a glossy magazine page. The book was an old Heinlein science fiction novel. |

It is a good thing you don't live in Alaska!
(Actually, aside from a few incidents with ground shipping, there hasn't been many problems.) |

I'm baking bread today. Well, actually nothing will get baked, I'm going to try to freeze the dough for use as dinner rolls at a later date. I've only made this bread twice before in the first place, loaves both times. I've never tried freezing dough before, much less how big to make the dough for rolls. I generally have no clue what I'm doing. This should be fun.
Mixing was also fun. I'm halving a recipe, so I needed 1.5 eggs. I used 2. I needed 5/8 cups of something, which I handily figured out to be 1/2 cup + 2 Tbsps. However, I couldn't find anything between 1/4 tsp and 1/2 cup, so it became 1/2 cup and 24 quarter tsps. It was like a math project in my kitchen. |

Wouldn't that be 1/2 cup and 6 tsps?
Or 1/2 cup and 2 tbsps?
Or 10 tbsps?
Or http://www.convert-me.com/en/convert/volume ? |

| If a recipe called for 1½ eggs I'd turn the page and make something else. Who needs the aggravation of trying to cut an egg in half? Fortunately, the only recipe I ever have occasion to follow calls for one whole steak and nothing else. |

I didn't have a tbsp, or a tsp. I had a measuring cup that had half-cup divisions, and a quarter teaspoon. |

I read that as "burn" the page the first time.
A friend of mine once made cookies with the child he was babysitting; it apparently became very messy and we joked with him that he had used 1½ eggs. |

ummmm...how? I thought you said you only had 1/4 tsp. and 1/2 cup?
Are you doing some sort of 'Iron Chef' thing where you're only allowed to use certain measuring devices on any particular day? Did you finally go out and buy a complete set of cups and spoons like you should have already?!? Did you make so many blueberry muffins that you were able to measure every single ingredient in 1/2 cup multiples?
Oh, BTW, next time you need to measure 1½ eggs, just hardboil the eggs beforehand. I'm surprised no one here suggested that already. |

I didn't say I didn't have anything between 1/4 tsp and 1/2 cup, just that I couldn't find anything in between. That's dependent upon where I checked, and yesterday I didn't check in the dirty utensils in the sink. I did say "I didn't have a tbsp, or a tsp" but I didn't use those today, either. |

| I never measure anything when baking. And if the recipe calls for 1 1/2 eggs, just add 2. It can be a good idea to throw in an extra egg at times. Remember: all recipes are relative. Is exactly one cup flour really the perfect amount? It is much more important for the batter to look right. |

I needed 1 cup blueberries. I poured them into the measuring cup and stopped to check my progress. 'Twas a bit over a cup. So I added some more blueberries. I like blueberries.
Most of them sank in the batter while I was making the topping. At least I learned for next time. |

My son and I witnessed a fender bender last night. It was towards the end of rush hour, and we were in the rightmost of three lanes at a traffic light. The light turned red for the cross traffic, which stopped. Then it turned green for the left turn lane to proceed. The people in the oncoming left turn lane also had a green light and began to move.
Somehow the lady in the car next to me began to drive straight through the intersection. No one was moving very fast. The guy crossing in front of me saw her coming and stopped, but she just kept going until she hit him and bounced off. I don't know what was on her mind. It seemed like slow motion. The car she hit was a large SUV with headlights on, so she had to have seen him.
It just makes me glad that I rarely have been involved in a minor accident like that, but I realize they could happen any time. I'll certainly watch out for lady drivers for a while. |

I am lucky enough to witness one bent fender a week at a certain corner on my walk to work. Mongolian drivers have a certain lack of respect for traffic lights...
Like Courk, I've been baking without the appropriate measuring devices. In my case, they seem to be quite unavailable in this country. |

You know what I've just realized? Paladin was only really actively posting for a year. He only has 37 post year-2000 posts. It's amazing, really. He dropped in, posted some fiendish puzzles, and then, yeah. That was it.
Not even 1500 posts and one year 7 years ago, and I still can't help but think "OMG, it's Paladin" whenever he posts.
Nothing like that to make me feel like I've wasted 14,000 posts. |
