Too bad you're not visiting SurfTech. Then we could meet up. Although, if you're up for a 120 mile drive that's cool.

I was browsing wiki, focusing on video games. I found mention of a game called "Custer's Revenge" on the list of bad video games. Being curious about what made this game bad, I read the description. I quote: It "is a pornographic video game developed by adult video game developer Mystique." OK... ummm... I've not heard of porno video games before, so this is a new one. Reading further, "In the game, the player moves a naked General George Armstrong Custer across the screen..." "Naked General George Armstrong Custer"??? What???! Questions of "Why?" float through my head, so, again, I read some more. He "navigates various obstacles with the intention of raping a Native American woman tied to a cactus." Who on Earth thought this game up, and who gave it the go ahead to be produced? It just screams "Don't approve/make/sell/buy me!"

See you next Thursday.

Explain that it needs to be thoroughly tested, and you're the only Certified Swing Tester in the state.

Also: This is my 12345th post. All 12345 of them are probably fairly contentless.

The mission was just to go get the 800 pounds of parts, load them into a pickup truck, and unload them at the house. Someone else volunteered to assemble it later. It was too dark by then.

Apparently there's some sort of bug on Zelda: Twilight Princess that's very bad, to the point of not being able to continue the game. Apparently at some point if you save and quit, the game will basically confuse itself. Look it up if you're worried about this, I don't trust my sleepy memory to get the details right, so I'm not mentioning them.

Anyway, I'm hoping that some sort of patch can be made up. Would that be possible, does anyone know? I've never thought of getting a patch for a game system, but then I've never had one that could get updates.

In related news, I'm having a merry time riding Epona through Hyrule. And then through Hyrule some more. And OMG, Hyrule keeps going! Whee!

Modern consoles have internet capability which would allow for a patch. Patches for PCs update the exe and other files (ddl, cab, etc). But consoles run from CD Roms instead of using a CRRom to install onto a hard drive. So any patching would require something in ram that would override anything that would be buggy, instead of overwriting like with PCs. I suppose it's possible, but it would be complex and transient. And given the size of typical patches, ouch.

I have been at Intel now for 7 years. As such, I now qualify for my first sabbatical which is 8 weeks of paid leave. I am extending my time off with 4 weeks of vacation for a total of 12 consecutive weeks off.

The plan is the day my wife and kids get out of school we are going to take a driving tour of the United States. Our intended route (still in planning) is to leave Portland and head South. We will heading to Vegas, the Grand Canyon, and down to Carlsbad Caverns. We will then start heading East with our major destination being Disney World in Florida.

We then plan on heading up the Eastern Seaboard to D.C. My dad wants us to stop in Virginia (he grew up there) and visit some the Civil War sites. Then on to the Nation's capitol to see some Museums and Monuments. We will then keep heading North and plan to go through New York and up to Niagara falls.

On the way home we plan to stay in the more northerly states and try and visit more historical and cool stuff on the way. I believe we are going to try to see Mt. Rushmore too.

My wife loves roller coasters, and my kids like water parks, so we plan to stop at as many amusment parks as we can find along the way.

Woohoo! Here comes the Griswalds.

We only have 8 weeks of actual travel time, and about 9,000 miles to drive. We are going to be bypassing a lot of things that would be worth spending some time.

But fortunately I will be spending most of my time with most important things in the world... My wife an kids.

Cedar Point. Go to Cedar Point. At least the amusement park, but there's also a water park. Make sure you ride Millennium Force, Raptor, and Mean Streak (all the way in the back, not to be confused with Blue Streak).

I also recommend Gettysburg.

Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens could be interesting if you go through Akron. It's the mansion that was built by F. A. Seiberling, the founder of Goodyear Tire & Rubber. It's huge and gorgeous. (Link to Stan Hywet.)

Tomorrow I set sail on the USS Lexington. I'll be back Sunday PM. It's a boy scout trip.

Okay, so we won't actually leave port (I don't think it even has engines any more), but we get to sleep on board.

I am in beautiful Mt Maunganui. Fresh seafood galore. Had a late night swim in some salt water hot pools that are heated by underground springs. Spent last night in a tent in the shade of the "mount". This morning climbed the "mount" for a gorgeous view out to sea, and of the surrounding beaches and towns.

Today - travelling onwards to Pauanui, where luxury accomodation awaits!

This is the freakin' life, I tell ya.

Today I figured out the size of Hyrule from Wii's Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. Going from the ranch in Ordon, through Kakariko village, looping through all the fields of Hyrule, and back to the Ordon Ranch is almost 250 miles. I got 248-something miles.

I figured Link jogs/runs between 9.5 mph (the winner of a 20km speed-walking race) and 12.5 mph (the world record for a marathon), so I averaged that to 11 mph. It took Link 18-19 mins to walk that route. A day in Hyrule's fields takes about 19 mins. Epona can gallop the route in about 7 mins, 45 seconds, giving Epona a galloping speed of 25.5 mph.

Measuring the day length was interesting -- Wii Hyrule's sun sets in the East. Felicitous
