In the spirit of "Drunken Posts." Post here if you can't sleep and happen to be at the GL.

I got really tired at about 9 PM today, fell asleep, woke up at midnight, and haven't been able to fall asleep since. It's now 4:30 AM...

What to do, what to do...

I don't think it's considered insomnia unless you're trying to sleep and can't. But by all means, post here

The problem is, when I have insomnia, I just post here all the time anyway, on account of you people are all awake anyway. Pah, I started this trend. Anyway, it's 12:30 and nowhere near late yet, but I'm going strong. My normal bed time is between 4 and 9am. Just so you know - I think I qualify.

But it's not just a matter of bedtime.

It's more a matter of getting less than four hours of sleep a night all week, and still being unable to sleep on weekends.

I have a friend who is mildly envious that I "can get by" on five hours a night, whereas he "can't help but get 8 hours." The bastard.

I'm an insomniac. I have medication I could take for it, but it makes me drowsy during the day and I hate that. So, I just stay up and do things that should induce sleep (like read jane eyre).

Yeah... I used to have sleeping pills, but they wouldn't work. I mean, they'd make me sleepy, but I still couldn't shut my mind down for the night.
Also, I used to take them all at once. Bah @ being screwed up.
Is that the problem you have with sleeping, lumi? You just keep thinking and thinking and it keeps you awake?

Yeah (Oookay, stop thinking. ... Hey! It's working! Wait..shit!) That, and even though I know I need to sleep, I don't like to. I'm pretty frightened of the stuff I see in my dreams, and I don't like to wake up bleeding. Ah well.

It's gotten to the point that I'm not tired when I should be during the night at all but I'm getting physically sick from the lack of rest. Meh.

The trick to stopping thinking isn't to try to stop thinking, but to think about something else that isn't anxiety inducing. Try focusing on your breathing and your abdoment. That sometimes help. I still get insomnia every once in a while, but that's mostly when I have a lot things worrying at me that I can't help but let them get to me.

Also try, shaking your feet back and forth, for a really long time, like 30 minutes, until the point when you stop, you can fee warm tingling feeling going all up and down your legs, feet, toes, etc. That sometime helps too.

Lumi, what pill do you have? Most sleeping pills do nothing for me except wake me up a bit. Ambien actually worked for me though. It knocks me right out and I CANNOT be wakened for at least 6 hours. (My wife tried one night.) Problem is, I don't wake up refreshed. I'm not groggy (after about 9-10 hours after I take the ambien, at least) but I still don't feel like I got a good night's sleep. (I have had at least three good night's sleep in my life, so I do know what it's like.)

Doc thinks I need to have a surgery done on my soft palate. Blech. I've put it off for over a year, already. I will probably do it in the next few months, but I'm considering doing it next year when I can do it with pre-tax money.

Mackay. Of course it counts. This post, on the other hand, shouldn't count. It's not that I'm feeling insomnia tonight, just that I feel like I haven't gotten enough out of the day. (Hence I stay awake and goof off even more.)

Ive been having entirely too much trouble sleeping as of late...but half of that is proabably because me computer is left on to render all night and i keep listening to music while trying to sleep. oh well, im glad that i dont have to work until 5pm (I worked a total of 6 morning shift...and was late for just 2 of them....) yeah, im rambling. but i dont see many reasons to stop anytime soon even though it is off topic now. off the topic of this post even....oh, its only 1:20 am right now, so this post isnt even really justified yet. did i ever mention that one time i stayed up until 6 am by drinking two glasses of mountain dew? and then i slept for 17 hours. but that was a time when i had to go to bed at a regular time...ugh@the hour school starts. i probably will never understand the idiots who make young kids get up at 8:30 to start. why cant it be like a real job where you work from...say 9-5?? another note is that i would have to drag myself out of bed at around 7:30 to catch the bus...stupid system.. ohk, enough.

Auuuugh, second night in a row I can't sleep. I'm usually out like a rock, I don't understand. And yeah, I also don't understand why teenagers of all people are forced out of bed before the sun comes up to go to school. Our bus comes around 6:35 in the morning, what an awful time of day if you don't want to be up. Oh well, since it's nearly morning anyway, maybe I should just stay awake. Blast.

I have gotten only 4 hours of sleep each of the last three nights. Since I am used to 5, this has left me groggy for much of the morning. Caffeine doesn't seem to do anything. Any helpful suggestions?

I should have the reverse of insomnia since I just came home from band camp on Thursday. But I'm going through a mini-depression so that's probably funking up my sleep schedule. Fun.
