Enquiring minds need to know. Specifically, my nephew needs to know. He's doing some school maths project about statistics or something and he's doing it about how long people can stand on one foot and he needs as many results as possible. I've asked all my meatworld friends, and now I turn to the GL. How long can you stand on one foot? Any results you could post would be a big help.

For the record, my results are:

Left foot: 2 minutes.
Right foot: 100 seconds.

Left foot eyes closed: 3 seconds.
Right foot eyes closed: 7 seconds.

So yeah, if you're bored and have nothing to do, why not try it out and see how long you can do it.

For science!

It's hard to see the stopwatch with my eyes closed.

Are there rules? Shoes on/off? What do I do with my other foot, can I put it on top of my foot on the floor?

Left foot: 3.5 minutes
Right foot: 2 minutes

Left foot eyes closed: 8 seconds
Right foot eyes closed: 4 seconds

I'd love to eat your meatworld friends. Particularly bacon.

left: 5:07. decided to log this experience.
right: 5:28. my iphone locked (i didnt fuss with it like first time) and it took me sometime to unlock it.
I stopped after reaching my goal but I felt i can do twice as much (from strength perspective).

blind. (also aimed for 5m or rather as long as i think 5 minutes are. in the first run it looked at the watch after 2.5m. I thought that at least 4 have passed).
left: 0:42. i started really bad. in this one i had to use my arms which i was not ready for (didnt need to in the first run). right from the start I jumped like mad (afraid to run into furniture) in a way i that could not recover from.

I lowered my expectation regarding 5m blind and started with raised arms. went to a roomier place
right: 2:36. on the third jumping fit i lost it
(I could not have done better with my left leg which is weaker.)

I am really not sure if the above is a lot or not but i had some practice in keeping balance in the past. Also tried keeping balance in water but I never tried measuring how long I can last Revenge most foul!

tips
- look at something (stable Revenge most foul!) that is in front of you. if you are holding/wearing a watch, raise your arm rather than look down.
- bend the knee a bit. if you start losing balance you can bend further to lower center of gravity
- its sometimes helpful to be proactive in movement. i.e. gently move the leg you are not balanced on in any direction and back. gently. the idea is that any imbalance is created because of us (unless you are in a windy place or in the water). if you consciously cause the imbalance you then can compensate for it. the down side is that it can be very tiring
- breathing. this can be tiring. keep calm

I would be happy to do it as soon as you answer Suspence's questions. I feel like they are important.

I did it with shoes on, holding my other foot in the air. However, I did allow myself hopping. I did them in this order

left: 2:25
right with eyes closed: 27 sec
right: 2:49
left with eyes closed: 31 sec

Oh, so manipulating the data by excluding some candidates then? Enthusiastic Grin

Here's the data for Mrs. Zag. (She has been confined to a wheelchair for the last decade plus.)

My balance is pretty good. In all cases, I stopped because my muscles were becoming stiff. This is shoes off, without jumping.

Right foot, eyes closed: 90" (stopped because my ankle became sore)
Left foot, eyes closed: 105" (ditto)

Right foot, eyes open: 428"
Left foot, eyes open: 720"

I was extremely impressed with the amount of time Lepton was willing to put into this experiment until I remembered that the symbols for "minute" is only a single '. Now I'm only moderately impressed.

No shoes, no hopping, no holding.

R foot, eye open:
1 minute 31 seconds

L foot, eyes open:
37 seconds

L foot, eyes closed:
7 seconds

R foot, eyes closed:
6 seconds

My right ankle was definitely tired for the eyes closed attempt. Other than that, I think after the first R foot, eyes open, I started over thinking it!

When you put your foot down, open your eyes and look at the stopwatch?
