Ladies and gentlemen, I have a confession to make.  While, generally speaking I'm an affable and kill kill kill them all easygoing chap, I have recently been diagnosed with knives, knives, lovely lovely sharp knives multiple personality disorder and, unfortunately, my other personality is not a very nice guy.  He is in fact, a completely mental serial killer, and he's stalking Westeros butchering all our favourite GoT characters.  What a bastard!

However, there is a way to stop him.  He only kills those characters who fit a certain rule.  If you're able to guess that rule, you will steal his mojo, and he'll cease all serial killing immediately and return to his previous occupation, weaving wicker legs for amputee hens.

HOWEVER!  There is a catch.  The killer also has a penchant for killing forum users, especially those who incorrectly guess what his rule might be.  If you post in this thead, you risk incurring his wrath and being put on the fast track for digital dispatchment, (but only if you fit his rule, of course), and if you guess his rule incorrectly, you are definitely a gonner.

So, with that in mind, let's play.

A cursory glance at the front page of the Westeros Bugle informs us that the killer has already made short work of:

Theon Greyjoy. The killer has stated "I killed him because he met my rule, and also because he's such a smug little git!"

P.S. - I should note that if you do guess the rule incorrectly and find yourself a victim of the serial killer, you can of course still post in this thread.  The only thing is that you can't make any more guesses.

P.P.S. - A little Game of Thrones knowledge is required to solve, but only a little. If ever you've watched one episode of the show, you know enough.

He would not. Daenerys, however, isn't so lucky. The serial killer claims her as his next victim.

I suggest reading the books, but the show is quite good, also.

I approach the cruel, cruel serial killer, hiding behind Robb Stark, since I think that he is safe from being killed.

Zag is absolutely right, and I second his recommendation to check out the books. They're amazing. The TV show is pretty bloody good too, though. Just one tip, whichever you choose, start at the beginning. It gets pretty complex pretty quickly.

The last four books i read was Super System 2, Harington on hold'em, Phil Gordon's little green book, and Ace on the River.

so don't be talking to be about literally classics, either.

The Westeros Bugle reports that Khal Drogo, beloved husband, father, and warlord, was discovered dead today in 57 different locations. The serial killer has claimed responsibility, bringing the death toll up to three.

Theon Greyjoy
Daenerys Targaryen
Khal Drogo
.

Will no-one catch this madman?!?

Smart play, Zag. Gregor Clegane is turned Into mincemeat, rolled into meatballs, and catapulted into the sea, while Joffrey Baratheon walks by unmolested, which is a shame, because he's such a little shit Felicitous

Also, early reports on the wire indicate that Mance Rayder is thelatest GoT character to take the dirt nap...well, in his case it'd be a snow nap, but still. That brings the death toll to:

Theon Greyjoy
Gregor Clegane
Daenerys Targaryen
Khal Drogo
Mance Rayder

As a (very) oblique hint that I probably should have mentioned in my OP,
I ought to say that the killers rule will also tell you his identity.

Bronn does not meet the killer's rule. However Illyrio Mopatis does. He is found floating in the sea missing his head and his body! The tally now stands at:

Theon Greyjoy
Gregor Clegane
Daenerys Targaryen
Khal Drogo
Mance Rayder
Illyrio Mopatis

Hint: There are only three more people the killer can take out before he has to start all over again.

Okay, we seem to have hit a dead end here. Here's a nice big, juicy hint. First of all, the killer has dispatched everyone's favourite morbidly obese ball-kicking street urchin Hot Pie to the great big bakery in the sky. Second of all, the rule he is using might make more sense if we re-order his victims, thusly:

Victims

Theon Greyjoy
Hot Pie
Mance Rayder
Daenerys Targaryen
Khal Drogo
Illyrio Mopatis
Gregor Clegane

I know it's easy for me to say, but I think there should now be enough information to solve the puzzle. Good luck!

Well, the ordering of the victims is important, there are three victims missing, and Aerys Targaryen seems to be implicated.

If you look closely at the list of victims below, something should stand out. They have been ordered that way for a very specific reason. As I said in the OP, you do need a little Game of Thrones knowledge to get this one, so it might be trickier than I'm giving it credit for (huge GoT nerd here Felicitous ).

Victims

Theon Greyjoy
Hot Pie
Mance Rayder
Daenerys Targaryen
Khal Drogo
Illyrio Mopatis
Gregor Clegane

As an additional hint, let's say that Arya Stark is the killer's next victim. If I were to say that she would go between Mance Rayder and Daenerys Targaryen, would that help?

MatthewV and Melissandre could both be taken down, yes. Posters who could not be taken down include (but are certainly not limited to) Courk, Quailman, Suspence, Jedo, and Llanmal as well as referee, ralphmerridew, and Zag mentioned earlier.

Here's another hint. The rule only allows the serial killer to kill 10 people. When Thok solved the puzzle, he had killed 7. If he were to kill the remaining three, he might well choose, say, Edmure Tully, Arya Stark, and Ned Stark. To make the rule more conspicuous, I would then list the full tally of victims thusly:

Victims

Theon Greyjoy
Hot Pie
Edmure Tully
Mance Rayder
Arya Stark
Daenerys Targaryen
Khal Drogo
Illyrio Mopatis
Ned Stark
Gregor Clegane

On examination, this list will yield both the rule and the killer's identity. If that doesn't help, here's another hint: Start at the beginning Felicitous
