Without Google etc.:

The Man in Black
The Girl who Waited
The Son of 100 Maniacs
The Child Left Behind
The Boy who Lived

Any more? I'm thinking for Sporcle...

ralphmerridew: Not what I was thinking of, the latter (and I thought that would be the most obscure one), and yes.

Scurra: I'll have to look those up. First makes me think of Hitchhiker's Guide, and I love "The Mother of Invention" as an idea (as Necessity).

That made me think of THE MAN IN THE YELLOW HAT. He was never named until the recent movie. Wikipedia says he was called Ted in the movie, Ted Shackleford in the deleted scenes.

THE MAN UPSTAIRS
THE MAN IN THE IRON MASK - King Louis' twin (IMDB says "Phillipe")
THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO
THE SON THAT WAS GOOD
THE BOY IN THE STRIPED PAJAMAS

When I saw 'Man in Black,' I assumed it referred to James Darrel Edwards III, a.k.a. Agent J. The others (well, the other two I knew) were fictional so I assumed that would be, too.

I can't believe rm didn't know Amy Pond. rm, I assign you to start watching every episode of Doctor Who that was made in the last two years.

Here are some more possible candidates.

The Man with the Golden Gun
Man of LaMancha
The Good Wife
Mamma Mia! (<g>)

Plus a couple that probably don't qualify but may actually be better known?!

Man on the Moon
The Girl with Kaleidoscope Eyes

I'm not a fan of Doctor Who. I've seen one episode (the one with Queen Victoria). What gave you the impression I was?

Man on the Moon: Andy Kaufman
The Girl with Kaleidoscope Eyes is reference to "I am the Walrus".

The Woman in White is a novel by Wilkie Collins, but I haven't read it.
The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo is Lisbeth Salander.

The Man Upstairs: God

The Man With The Golden Gun: Scaramanga
Man of La Mancha: Don Quixote

Nothing, only that you should be. Is that a Matt Smith episode? I like him much better than David Tennant, though it is very likely that this is because I saw the Matt Smith ones in chronological order. It improves them considerably, but I think most are very good anyway.

The one with Queen Victoria is Tooth and Claw, it was the second or third* Tennant story. </anorak>
(*depending upon how you count them.)

It did occur to me that
The Woman in Black
The Woman in Red
would also be possibles.

The Man from UNCLE?
Son of Sam?

I'm glad this little idea is turning out so well. And good to see so many I've missed. Some real forehead slappers here.

Though I'm a bit surprised that I haven't seen anyone get my 4th one, The (Bastard) Sun of 100 Maniacs.

ooo, Zag, disagree. IMHO, Dr. Who's main problem is not with who is playing Dr. Who, but is (from what I have seen) that it is not very well written.

Bah! Philistine!

Some are better than others, and the best ones, I think, are extremely well-written. I agree that there are a couple real dogs, though.

At the risk of derailing the thread, I would respectfully also disagree. It is very well written indeed. As Zag says, there are some bad ones, but the fun part is that we almost certainly disagree about which ones they are! Doctor Who is a very unusual television show in that it is a drama that is written for the whole family. In other words it has to work for both children and adults, which is one of the most extraordinarily difficult things to manage without annoying both audiences. That it manages it at all is a testament to how good it is. </soapbox>

Doctor Who spinoff! (9)

Oh that's quite brilliant. Even though it only works because of the original anagram in the first place, it's still great.
