Akinator is an AI that guesses what character (real or fictional) you are thinking of by asking yes or no questions. These questions come from actual rounds that Akinator has won. Can you guess the subjects?

Is your character from a TV series? No
Does your character use guns? Yes [Akinator expected a "No" answer, but I beg to differ.]

Wow! It is freakishly good. I finally defeated it, after 5 or 6 tries (my 3rd serious try to stump it), with Wilbur, the character from the old Mr. Ed TV series. That was after it got some second-tier science fiction authors, and a couple of characters from only moderately popular TV series.

Once it was stumped, it offered a list of names, asking if it was there, and it was! Possibly I had answered some of the answers wrong, and it really did know it!

Some of them it doesn't even seem to be getting close, and then it guesses the right name. Try Gary Gygax. It didn't even seem close, but then it asked, "Is your characters linked to dragons?"

It is freakish how Akinator can seem nowhere close to being able to know your character, and then suddenly figure it out. That's why I think some good trivia puzzles can be made out of lines of questioning from Akinator rounds.

Akinator gets his knowledge from other players; I'm sure Gary Gygax stumped him at first, but as more players thought, "Hey, Gary Gygax would surely stump the robotic genie!", Akinator learned more about him, and adapted accordingly.

Holy Jesus, this thing is amazing! It took me five tries before I could beat it. The first time I went with Doctor Who, and in nine questions it not only got the answer but also the specific doctor I was thinking of! I finally beat it with David Brent (from the original version of The Office) but it only needed a couple of extra questions to get that too.

2 has to be Doc Brown.

I wanted Akinator to win when I went through, so I went with characters he already knew. He failed on the second person, though, but that's probably because I seem to be the only person that knows the answers to her questions.

Well, I went through five tries, and stumped it on two:
Yuuki Miaka (Fushigi Yuugi)
Torg (Sluggy Freelance)
Lexx (Alien Dice), failed
Beatrice (Umineko)
Benjamin Butler, failed

Was surprised on the last one. It had "Civil War general" around question 12, and still couldn't narrow down the answer.

Hmm, for Zag's one we're looking for a clean-shaven American male who was died within the last hundred years, was over 40 at the time, and who had a dangerous occupation. He's not an actor, singer, sportsman, writer, inventor, soldier, or a leader, political or otherwise. He is also not a fictional character. That doesn't leave much...

Well, yeah. I'm sure that's why the computer got it. It's much harder for humans to see what isn't there. I'll give one hint: he was an entertainer, just not music-related, nor acting, nor comedy.

Oh! A good guess! But I would have said yes to "Is your character's work dangerous?". I only said Probably. My character is from a time earlier than Evel, though I don't think that there is any question which established that fact. (My character died in the 1920's.)

That's it.

I finally completely stumped it, such that the name wasn't even among the "does that match one of these?" after I typed the name in. Of course, I did it by going ridiculously obscure. I had tried P.T. Barnum, which it got, but in the course of looking him up on wikipedia in order to answer some of the questions, I saw that his first exhibit was an elderly black woman whom he bought (it was pre-Emancipation). She was, "a blind and almost completely paralyzed slave woman, Joice Heth, claimed by Barnum to have been George Washington's nurse, and to be over 160 years old."

I was absolutely astounded when he got this one. Answers below are *my* answers, only one differed from Akinator's answers.
Code:

Does your character live in America?   Yes
Is your character a girl?   Yes
Is your character blond?   No
Is your character a Disney Channel star?   No
Is your character a singer?   No
Is your character from a TV series?   Yes
Is your character real?   No
Is your character from a cartoon?   No
Does your character go to school?   No
Has your character played in a comedy?   No
Is your character a policeman or a detective?   No
Does your character play the role of a doctor?   No
Does your character have super powers?   No
Does your character have children?   No
Has your character killed people?   No
Is your character someone's assistant?   No
Is your character from DC Comics?   No
Is your character homosexual?   No
Does your character have white skin?   No
Is your character dark-skinned?   No

I'll tell you which question he disagreed on if you need a hint.

Hmmm. Not white, not dark, so I'll assume Asian, Native American, or possibly from India.

Not a doctor, cop, or super-hero, and not in a comedy, so I'm going to guess lawyer or manager/administrator (possibly an EMT -- technically not a doctor, even if in a medical show).

That incredibly hot hindu woman on The Good Wife would, I assume, be considered a detective.

The Asian girl in Harry's Law that the male lawyer was dating. She fits every answer. Well, unless one considers that show to be a comedy. It's on the edge.

I think that there is an Indian woman lawyer who works with Franklin & Bash. (Maybe she's black, though.)

I think there's an Asian woman on Lie to Me, but she'd qualify as someone's assistant.

Am I close?

It got this in one guess. I was sure that the Curly Hair question was the one that zeroed it in, but it disagreed with me on that answer! Otherwise, I have no idea how it got it. (I guess there weren't that many single-parent families in 70's TV. That must be it.)

Is your character a female? No No
Is your character more than 40 years old? No Yes
Is your character from a TV series? Yes Yes
Does your character have human skin? Yes Yes

Does your character go to school? Yes Yes

Does your character mostly play in comedies? Yes Yes

Is your character a cast or a character from 'Glee'? No No
Does your character have curly hair? Yes Don't know
Is your character a football (soccer) player? No ?

@ralphmerridew Correct; the answer that sets the two apart is whether he's an adult or not.

Time for the one I was training Akinator to recognize:
Quote:
Is your character's gender female? Yes
Is your character a singer? No
Is your character from a TV series? Yes
Does your character belong to an animated cartoon? Yes
Is your character an animal? No
Is your character from an anime (Japanese animation)? Yes

Does your character have a sister? Yes
Does the name of your character appear in the title of a TV series? Yes
Does your character use advanced technology equipment? No
Is your character a vampire? No
Does your character use guns? No
Is your character a sorcerer or a witch? No
Is your character blond? Yes
Is your character a super fan of something? No
Is your character a puppet manipulator? No
Does your character have a cat? No
Is your character part mystical creature? No

EDIT: And yes, he got it from just these questions

If you always answer 'no', he'll guess 'The grouchiest player ever (hates saying yes)'

I was surprised that it recognised some minor mythical Irish characters, and even more surprised when it said that 700+ people already played with that character. Felicitous
It totally shocked me by guessing Skulduggery Pleasant. It seemed to be going nowhere and then asked "Is your character a skeleton?" after which it guessed correctly.

I finally stumped it with Patrick O'Donnell.
Thank God for obscure Irish heroes. Felicitous

Sure is! Felicitous

For #4, the "movie trilogy" question is weird, as the character actually appears in the first, second, and fourth movies of a movie quadrilogy. Also for the question "Does your character use guns?", the character does, in fact, use a brother's BB gun in the first movie.

It bugs me more than it should when Akinator has an answer that is simply wrong. I realize that it isn't interested in actual facts, just with the response that the majority of people give. But come on, people, Zeus is not mortal.

This is awesome!

I love the questions that seem to come out of right field, such as when it asked if Barack Obama was from the Dragon Quest series (after already having been told that he was a real-world politician.) Or when the last question it asked before guessing (correctly) was whether my character had green hair. I guess it must have narrowed the choices down to two, one of whom had green hair.

This makes me think of a time I was playing the board game "Guess Who" with my little niece. Trying to be a good uncle and let her win, I was just going to pick off characters one at a time. My first question was, "Does your character have a green mohawk?". Her face immediately dropped...
