Saw this online and am stumped.

What historical moment does this describe?

"Five to three was enough for these gunslangers [sic] to take down Motown."

Initial thought was sports. I looked and Detroit never lost 5-3 in a World Series (back when then played best of 9).

I thought sports as well, but focused on football since 5-3 would be a rather unusual score.

I can only find one game that ended 5-3, and Motown wasn't involved:

I thought of baseball because I knew they played best of 9 for only a few years and a really long time ago, so "5 to 3" would throw most people off of that scent.

How about the surrender of Ft. Detroit, August 16, 1812. I don't see anything that yells out "5-3" but I only took a cursory glance. It seems that one of the key strategies was making the Americans believe there were more enemies that there actually were, so maybe it's worth looking into.

Since it's Motown, I don't suppose it could be referring to when New Edition broke up and Bell Biv Devoe arose? Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins, and Ronnie Devoe were 3 of the 5 members of New Edition.

Wait a sec, who did the song MoTownPhilly? Boyz II Men, right?
(time out for a bit of research)
Ah, there's another link. Michael Bivins was also in Boyz II Men.
