I'm pretty sure the answer to #48 is a pen. "The pen is mightier than the sword!". 
To add my twopence to the chromosome detour, I think it is actually the presence of a Y chromosome that makes a person male, and there does exist a genetic condition where a person has only the X chromosome and no Y or second X (they're female). |
