The recently formed UK Puzzle Association (see my sig) is hosting its first Championship competition this weekend, with the winner being crowned the 1st official UK Sudoku Champion. (If you're from the UK, that is).

All puzzlers world-wide are welcome to participate - in fact we expect 80+% of participants to be non-UK.

The instruction book is available to download (follow the obvious link on the front page).

There is quite an active forum attached to the main site. There you can find links to all sorts of puzzle sites, as well as a multitude of online puzzle (and sudoku) competitions, past and present.

We already have at least one person from GL planning to compete - it would be nice to see more Almost Fonz Cool

Can computer programs compete?

Good luck with that! (I guess you haven't looked at the instructions)

I'm happy for computers to enter so long as they declare as such.

I didn't say it can break your competition, if I find the time (sadly, that's unlikely) it would be an interesting challenge. Many of the sudoku variations there are easy to feed to a decently implemented sudoku solver.

Yes, I'm sure a competent program could be modified to cope with some of the variations. I'm not a big sudoku fan myself - there are 100s, if not 1000s of logically solvable puzzle out there - sudoku is just 1 of them, but it is the popular one and, as far as I'm concerned, the hook to get people interested in the 'main event'.

If you're into sudoku, try this paper:

or general puzzles:
http://www.logicmastersindia.com/puzzles.pdf (pencil/paper)
or

We're puzzlers, not programmers, but if that's your (plural, not singular) thang, fine. Just don't pretend to be a puzzler - it benfits no-one.
Enjoy!
