Formerly known as :Not cryptics Revenge most foul!

These are a puzzle idea I came up with. They may or may not be liked. They could be improved on a lot. Here are 10 examples. They are all solved in the same way as each other.

2. Point cut off with emphasis. Solved Oscar
3. White fools rush for first place. Solved Jack Ian
4. "This is what I leave you, Smith: Free power" Solved Oscar

8. Radical dairy trade: Give it away. Solved Oscar
9. "Black Liver" Gene will put the groups' resources together. Solved Groza528
10. Write with noncursive text on fine blue screen. Solved Oscar

Set Two
A11. Drive forward, news will be bright. Solved Zag
A12. Knives fly, fingers spread. Solved Zag
A13. Track human relations and step on it! Solved Jack Ian
A14. Post loyalty graphics put in the ATM. Solved Jack Ian
A15. Jack heads out with part of a gun. Solved Quailman
A16. Mineral safety rate security given. Solved Oscar

Of course, April fools day will make it harder to solve. Good. But I do wish they had done something more original than dropping vowels.

I think I've got the gist:

4. will
6. going
7. agent
8. free
10. print

Nice, but they're not cryptics, amb Wink

[edit: I'm not going to add any more answers yet, but I wonder if the 3rd element in #5 travels well?]

Are you referring to the wording of the clue - as in the flow of the writing - or the 3rd element itself? It was a term I knew quite well, and perhaps it isn't a common term outside of New Zealand (Where I am).

Just a curiosity - are these any good as a puzzle? I enjoyed writing them.

Since I made a hames of my answer to #3, I'll proffer my answer for #5, so that a more open discussion can ensue.

5: tube

For my part, I thought that it was fine and assumed that this was what was intended. A short-lived fashion in these colder climes, but non-the-less enjoyed (at least by me) Revenge most foul!

1) face

11) Repeatedly strike hard to back a retreat

It was actually harder than I thought to construct these and maintain a decent surface reading.

Yes it is Revenge most foul!

I really enjoyed the challenge of that. There were several ideas I had that I just couldn't merge. Eg "Fly Ball" for Butter.

I tried my best to use the construct: Term 1, Term 2, Term 3, Definition or Definition, Terms1-3 without any extra words. It would be a lot easier without the self imposed restriction. These could be classed as cryptics if I could get a good list of indicators implying a 3x3 style puzzle.

2. power?
11. beat

12. Black Watch bed end

I think these work very well as puzzles, amb. The 3rd term in #5 would be better known as a boob tube in the UK.

A pretty good fit, referee, but the answer I intended has a stronger connection with the definition part, I feel...

12 I was thinking head but it seemed a weak definition for end, especially given the tenuous head-watch, so I thought the better of it.

I haven't given up on it yet though. I just need a little more cogitation-time. Something that's seriously lacking for me a.t.m. Confused

i have a whole bunch more coming now.

Does anyone mind if I change the format to [word][word][word] and the definition can be anywhere in the clue? eg [word][word][definition][word]?

Not that any of the ones I have written do this yet?

A16: base?

Stuck on A17, but you might be able to answer the following if you're working on it.

J1: Steal from twenty two sports ranges

Would anyone be interested in a "Triplets" thread similar to the cryptics one where the solver sets the next clue?

Won't start one until later in the year though. Give enough time between to revive interest.
