The first Quickfire is a simple, yet very complex quickfire, you will have only two weeks to complete the making of this puzzle. You must make a puzzle using 25 words or less. It may not involve pictures, animations, or other items, just words.

Well, I don't have an answer, but to get some discussion going, here's what I tried...
I assumed it was a word search taken apart, and if you put it back together some additional word(s) would be revealed in the adjacent letters. I also figured it would be a very tight packing or there would be too many ways to put it together.
I think the smallest possible packing would be 13x14 letters (due to CANCELLATIONS and CALCIFICATION not sharing the 7th letter). I don't see a
So far the smallest packing I made was 13x16, as follows:
N.GENETICS...
TO.MCITCALAG.
N.II......FS.
EGYT......EAS
MULYA.D...DN.
HBKA.CR...OAH
SENDURINGIRNA
IRA...BFT.AAM
LNR...BAI.SBM
LAF..DL.MCOEE
ETT..LEY.DLLR
BO.TE.NLA..AS
MR.CEO.CG..YC
EIN.MMO...E..
.A.O.VP...AD.
CLH.A..T...H.
It needs to be in Courier or other fixed-point font, not sure how to post that way. Use the dots as a guide to line it up. Anyway, even packing as tightly as 13x16, there's room to slide a few of the words around a bit, such as EMBELLISHMENT, GENETICS, GALACTIC, HAMMERS.

This one's excellent. I took a look at it when it came out, thought, "eh, okay, it's semaphore", and went on to the next puzzle. Just came back around to actually try solving it and was pleasantly surprised to see I was wrong (and apparently couldn't count in a few places ) _________________ "I am now telling the computer exactly what it can do with a lifetime supply of chocolate..." |

I had tried to make street signs out of the words first, like Stop sign or Yield. I guess maybe I'll take another look at this one if I have some time. _________________ jbv |

| Solution to round 1 puzzle: Each of the words listed begins with a letter between A and H inclusive. Take each of the words that begin with the same letter and, preserving their orientation, overlap those starting letters. This will create the semblance of large letters which, taken in order from A to H, spell the answer: CIVILITY |

Elimination Challenge 1: What's on TV?
During this challenge players were asked to create a puzzle inspired by a favorite television program. The genre of the program was not important, but contestants were instructed to demonstrate through their puzzles why the program was worth watching.

I feel forced to say, however, that eight is greater than six. _________________ Jan 21st, 2008: The pillaging continues.

Quickfire #2: Hang by a Thread
Quickfire for the next round is another classic from the last round
You must pick a Topic in the Grey Labyrinth to base a puzzle off of. VSP is banned from being picked, as are the GL's front page puzzles. Additionally, a topic can not be picked that has been made after the start of this quickfire.
You may not use visual aides for your puzzle. it must be in all text, and the words may not be used to create a visual puzzle.
You have one week to complete this puzzle
Oh and one last thing. If you win this challenge, you can not be eliminated in the next elimination challenge.

I'll start it off:
Several gazelles left Raphael's weapon with a mixed up lamp inside. = IMPALAS (anagram of lamp inside backwards sai)
Doc's customer left Apple's Tap beside a Middle Earth tree. = PATIENT (backwards iTap + ent)
First see a vision, your measure in years, brutal. = SAVAGE (S + A + V + AGE) |

A proven idea, an article mixed up Rome. THEOREM (THE + ROME ana)
A green herb of the perennial variety loses Lore's head, half of that weird Lady who is a girl but dresses like a boy dressing like a girl, and New Orleans. OREGANO (LORE - L + GA + N.O.)
Larger emergency room, after a thousand. GRANDER (GRAND + ER)
The numbers in brackets might be [page, post] or [post, word] combinations in the thread? I haven't looked into it. |

Persona was right. The numbers are page/post indexes for the "What made you happy?" thread. The top clues all refer to one of them.
This gives us the words (in order of clue):
DRAGON
GARDEN
METEOR
ORANGE
PATENT
SALAMI
SCORES
VEGAS
All of the cryptic clue answers are anagrams of the above set of words + 1 letter. So GARDEN + R = GRANDER, for example.
Haven't finished it off yet. |

Which would make the last answer GROANED though I'm not exactly sure why.
Final answer: The extra letters, in order of the second set of clues, spell EUPHORIA |
