Is this entire scenario set in the present day? in real life?
Is there one specific instance of this sign? or is it something more abstract that you are talking about, that such signs exist?
Was the original intent of the sign something completely unrelated to the "he" under discussion?
You said that the sign is not as it was meant to be. Has the text been altered? Intentionally? Because of weather? |

Is this entire scenario set in the present day? in real life? Real life yes. Doesn't need to be present day, but let's say that it is for convinence sake
Is there one specific instance of this sign? We're talking about one particular instance of the sign or is it something more abstract that you are talking about, that such signs exist? I have no idea what this question means
Was the original intent of the sign something completely unrelated to the "he" under discussion? Absolutely!
You said that the sign is not as it was meant to be. Has the text been altered? Yes Intentionally? No Because of weather? Strangely, one could say weather does play a part |

Did someone alter the sign?
Did some use graffiti on the sign?
Did someone add letters to the sign?
Is the unaltered sign a common road sign? |

Is it a sign with movable letters, like a church sign?
If so, did someone rearrange the letters? |

Is the sign electronic?
Is the original text of the sign just a single word?
Is there anything else on the original sign other than the text?
Is the original sign unique? |

Both are commonly used english words. The origonal comes from the French. The change can be English, Spanish, French, Greek, or Russian, based on a few searches on wikipedia. |

The people who "went by;" were they walking? In motor vehicles?
Is the sign located in an area?
Is the sign in the USA? Europe?
Is it fair to say this particular sign is "famous"?
Was the original purpose of the sign to indicate a certain location? If so, is the location a proper name?
Have letters on the sign been removed? Or altered but not removed? Was just a single letter altered/removed? |

Is the sign in a city/urban area? It could occur either, easier to immagine in the city, so assume that
Is the sign in the USA? Europe? I think it occur just about anywhere. I immagine it occuring in the US, so let's go with that.
Is it fair to say this particular sign is "famous"? As in, has a random person off the street heard of this sign? Yes
Was the original purpose of the sign to indicate a certain location? If so, is the location a proper name? No
Have letters on the sign been removed? No Or altered but not removed? Yes Was just a single letter altered/removed? No
Is the sign being read as 2 or more words? No |

| Like, instead of saying whatever it was supposed to say, it was "typoed" (some sort of error was made) along the way, and it says something different. Like, instead of saying "No Parking" a sign said "No Barking" |

Ah, so you're asking "Is the change in the sign a substution of one (or more) letters for other letter(s)? " And the anwser, is no
Sorry to drag that out, just have to be specific. |

Was the sign accidentally seen through a mirror?
Or otherwise reversed?
Is it Christmastime?
Was the sign supposed to say Noel? |

That's it! I could drag out some details, but that's the gist of it.
Spoiler :
A Noel sign is put up at christmas. This particular sign has the letters spelled out in individual pieces, i.e., not one block. When setting them up, he accidentally puts them facing towards his house, instead of away.
This would of course not spell anything, (Unless I worked a mirror into the story somewhere) but one jokester comes along and flips the individual letters so that now they spell Leon. And of course this begs the question : "Who's Leon?"
Thanks for playing everyone, hope that was worth the effort. |
