Is it true that Joe became unconscious during his shower, fell face forward, and banged his head (giving him the bruise)?
Did the banging of the head kill him?
Did the shampoo make him unconscious?

Hmmm...
Did Joe work at home?
Was Joe a teacher? a librarian? |

Was Joe an actor/screen entertainer? If yes, were his showering activities being filmed or taped?
Was the bruise evidence of a lethal blunt trauma? Or was the bruise incidental to Joe's death?

Is this event based on a true story?
if not... Is it plausable that this event could happen in real life without any wierd events needing to happen. (use your best judgment. if you told the story to someone, would they belive you?) |

Was Joe actually working at the time he was in the shower ? (versus the fact that he takes a shower after his job to clean up)
Did Joe turn on the water before or after he stepped into the shower ?
Was the temperature of the water HOT ? Too hot in fact, that Joe got burned, jumped, slipped and fell, hitting his head, knocking him unconscious, ultimately killing him ?
And to rephrase in case you ask:
Joe was in the shower. He starts to apply the shampoo, and closes his eyes (as most people do). Something happens (a neighbor flushes the toilet, or the water is shut off, etc). Extremely hot water comes out of the shower, causing Joe to jump, slip and hit his head. |

Would Joe be naked as part of his job, then? No
Is it true that Joe became unconscious during his shower, fell face forward, and banged his head (giving him the bruise)? Yes
Did the banging of the head kill him? Yes
Did the shampoo make him unconscious? Not directly
Did Joe work at home? Not necessarily, but he could
Was Joe a teacher? No.
a librarian? No.
Was Joe an actor/screen entertainer? No.
If yes, were his showering activities being filmed or taped?
Was the bruise evidence of a lethal blunt trauma? Yes
Or was the bruise incidental to Joe's death? Assuming I understood you, yes
Is this event based on a true story? I sure hope not
if not... Is it plausable that this event could happen in real life without any wierd events needing to happen. (use your best judgment. if you told the story to someone, would they belive you?) I should hope not
Was Joe actually working at the time he was in the shower ? No.
Did Joe turn on the water before or after he stepped into the shower ? [n]Ireelevant[/b]
Was the temperature of the water HOT? It was hot, minus the all caps
Too hot in fact, that Joe got burned, jumped, slipped and fell, hitting his head, knocking him unconscious, ultimately killing him ? Don't you hate when it happens? nah
Or would he specifically not wear a uniform? Not a job requirement, but it's customary not to wear uniform in his jobi.e. is he a plainclothesman? A secret agent? An actor? None of those
Does the size/shape/weight/surface texture of the bottle have to do with anything? No
Might this have anything to do with Joe's relatives? It was stated twice no other people are involved
Was Joe in the shower because he needed to take a shower? "wanted" is more like it
Or was Joe in the shower because he was working on the shower (as part of his job)? No
Was Joe a plumber? No

Was Joe somehow doing his job in the shower? Not exactly....
Was there something unusual on the surface of Joe's body, relating to his job, that caused the problem? Don't you hate those horrible, mutating jobs? Luckily, that is not the case with Joe

Is this a relatively easy lateral puzzle?
Are we all relatively stupid?
Seriously..
You said Joe was not exactly doing his job in the shower.
Was he doing something in the shower similar to what he does on the job?
Was Joe at all thinking about his job in the shower? |

| Although Antrax says the reason Joe is clutching the bottle of shampoo is rigor mortis, we all know that rigor mortis doesn't begin to set in until about 5 hours after death. There are some poisons that cause all muscles to seize virtually instanteously (I believe I learned this from a reliable source, perhaps Donald J. Sobol's "Two-Minute Mysteries"), but unless Joe was killed by one of these poisons, he should've dropped the bottle of shampoo when he became unconcious. I'm not quite sure whether this is a clue to the solution or just a miswording of the puzzle, seeing as it could have easily been said that Joe was dead in the shower with a bottle of shampoo on the ground next to him. |

Sorry, but this isn’t making sense to me.
Here are some answers we have:
1. If Joe hadn't used the shampoo, would he still be alive? Yes.
2. If Joe had used another kind of shampoo, is it possible that he would still be alive? Hmm, unlikely.
3. I he'd used conditioner on his hair instead of shampoo, would he still have died? I'm pretty sure the answer is "no".
4. Is knowing the brand or type or ingredients or any other information about the shampoo useful in determining the cause of death? Nope.
I read in these answers that any kind of shampoo would have killed him, but conditioner wouldn’t have.
Is that true?
If the shampoo ingredients don’t matter, why the critical difference between shampoo and conditioner?
Is there an ingredient common in shampoos but not common in conditioners that made the difference in Joe’s fate?

| Joe was a male prostitute receiving the last blow job of his life. He clutched the bottle of shampoo as his penis was ripped off by some well fed woman's dentures and then dropped dead from shock. |

Is this a true statement:
“Joe is a human being who was found dead, face down, in a shower cubicle with the hot water running, clutching an open, half-full bottle of shampoo. The cause of Joe’s death was the banging of his head in the shower, which resulted in a small bruise on his forehead. Joe became unconscious before hitting his head and dying. Joe did not slip in the tub, nor did he drown, or encounter difficulty breathing, nor did he ingest the shampoo or get it in his eyes, or have an allergic reaction to the shampoo. No other people were involved in Joe’s death. Joe has a job which in some way relates to his death. Had Joe not had this job, he would most likely be alive today. Joe was not performing his actual job duties in the shower, but while in the shower he was doing something somewhat similar to what he does on his job. Joe does not work for the government, or for Consumer reports, nor was he an actor, screen entertainer, plainclothes policeman, plumber, teacher, librarian, or secret agent. Typically, people who perform the same job as Joe do not wear a uniform to work, but do not work naked either. As for the shampoo, it too played a role in Joe’s death. Although the brand of shampoo, its ingredients, and the size and shape of the shampoo bottle are not related to Joe’s death, Joe would not have perished if he only used conditioner rather than shampoo on his hair on that fateful day.” ???
And I thought this question was important so I will reask it and elaborate.
"Would the shampoo have made Joe unconscious if Joe had a different job?" Most likely, no.
So:
Did the shampoo indirectly cause Joe to become unconscious?
Is there another factor that has not been mentioned yet that made Joe unconcious, besides the shampoo, the water, and Joe's occupation?
If Joe had not gone to work on that day, would the shampoo still have assisted in knocking him unconscious?
Does Joe normally work indoors?
Did Joe apply the shampoo anywhere else on his body other than the hair on his head?
Was this shower in Joe's home?
Was the shower at his work?

Good questions, Suspence13.
If what's in the bottle isn't helpful, maybe it's something on the bottle, such as what's on the label, that's important? |

Well, because a chestnut sauteed lightly with chicken and tarragon, in a white wine sauce, is still in the end a chestnut. I heard this as the much, much shorter,
"Why do computer programmers have so much trouble with shampoo?"
"Why?"
"Because the directions say 'Lather, Rinse, Repeat.'"
The frustration was that it was, to me at least, a familiar joke that, in this case, took a long time to get to the punchline of. |

Uhh, Tahnan, the reason we don't like chestnuts is because they're posted repeatedly and nobody enjoys solving them. From what I see, this was never posted AND many people enjoyed it (until you've came and spoiled it, frankly). So I fail to see why you're mad.

I'm not mad; I was frustrated, and there's a difference. As for chestnuts, they're chestnuts no matter how often they're posted. When someone offered "what do you sit on, sleep on, and brush your teeth with," it was still a chestnut, though I'd not seen it here before.
The frustration mostly came, really, from an interest in seeing where this was heading, and disappointment that it was one I'd heard before. Apologies if I did in fact spoil anyone's enjoyment. |
