this is a test for a puzzle I'll be using in my DnD game. I wondered how easy/hard it would be to solve and this seems like a good place to try it out. So you're in a room with an inscription on the wall and a door which is locked. On the door is a plaque which reads, "say the six words to pass this way". The inscription looks like this:

H+
24681012141618202224262830&
H+
abcdefghijkmnopqrstuvwxyz
G+
1357911131517192123252729&
D+
murderoccultismhumansacrifice

Well, I got it in about 5 minutes, so it must be ridiculously easy. At least, I think I did...

heaven hell god devil

A decent puzzle if you use some interesting font. Say runic and they have to first transcribe it then solve it.

I got that bit too Boueftete except i had hades instead of hell - i couldn't make hell make sense not that hades does either, but it asks for six words.

I aggree with Boeuftete, see how he got everything, but I'd like to point out that after the first and third there is an & after each, so it's more of

Heaven and Hell, God and Devil

Nice...

I think the most interesting "puzzle" (although it was more of a trap) in one of the AD&D games I've played in was a large door that said, "CHOOSE YOUR DEATH"... since someone out-of-character mentioned a chart that listed die roll suggestions for attacks with a pillow (of all things), I stupidly blurted out, "Fluffy pillows!" Our party was attacked by miniature white pillows with large teeth and one of the team was trapped in a room that would normally have a wall of spikes close in on him, but the spikes were replaced by pillows...

Afterward, the GM admitted that his plan was for the first thing any person said, in-character or out-, would be what attacked the party, so I naturally made the joke about the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man.

...I really want to know what he would have done if somebody said the F-word

I do have it made up as a jpeg using the sheer elegance font and some images (clouds at the top and fire at the bottom) which I would have preferred to post since the colourful serifs and lines of the font make it harder to spot the important bits or discern numbers as tens rather than single units. Unfortunately I don't know how to post a picture, although I've seen some on GL here and there. Thanks for solving it so quickly - guess I'll have to go think up something better

Antrax the mighty stares at the inscription. "I have it!" he calls to his mates. "What is it?" asks Luna, the Elf Mage. "the six words," says Antrax "pretty easy, huh?"

Yes, I've done that one too a few times but it always raised a groan so I stopped using it.

~shrugs~
Personally, my "riddles" were always devious traps, and they got the entire party every time, so I was relieved of DM duty
