Thanks, Zag. That's a good catch about the lower case i. That is the one thing that I think is in there without specific intent. This was originally a graphic puzzle. I converted the clues from images to letters for the purpose of simplicity in posting here, and should have changed to a serifed font to be clear. That was a last minute change, and there is NO significance to the lower case i. It is exactly as you thought; to distinguish it from the number 1.

However, any little details like that within the clues section ARE intentional, yes, and should be considered for various possibilities. The letters beyond J do serve a specific purpose. And a clue for G is not needed. When the rest of them are solved, G will be deduced. As far as the mathematical vs. non-mathematical -- these are intentionally vague but I think that with enough time one will be able to come up with the various relationships possible between the letters. That's where I believe the "thinking outside the box" will come in. If one relationship between objects doesn't work, another will have to be considered.

I've tested the puzzle myself several times (for what that's worth -- given that I am the one who wrote it) and it works out well.

If I were to recommend a starting point on this puzzle, I'd start with... any clues having to do with the number 19.

Thank you for the welcome! I've always loved logic, and logic puzzles; though I don't hold the humble little word searches in very high esteem. I love deciphering things.

By the way, I'm not a mathematician but I am fascinated by the relationship of numbers. Has anyone seen the movie "The Number 23"? It came out a few years ago. I found the storyline to be absolutely riveting. Wish there were more mystery/puzzle movies like that.

Hmmmm. Interesting, but I got nothing. But I am not even in the top twenty of the puzzle solvers who are regulars here. You've come to the right place -- if this crowd can't solve it, then it isn't solvable.

Instructions say A - J, but the puzzle includes a K (and no G). Intentional?

I'm assuming the letter i is in lower case just to make it more easily distinguished from the number 1, but maybe there is another reason.

I have no problems with the idea that there are non-mathematical "equations" in there, but it makes me concerned about the ones that do appear to be normal math equations -- maybe those aren't, either, in which case I have no place to stand.

These are not a criticisms of the puzzle. But if it remains unsolved, then these are things that you might want to clarify in order to make it more approachable. I would wait, though, and see if one of the real puzzle solvers here can get it.

Oh yeah, welcome to Grey Labyrinth! It's great to have new blood with original puzzles. I feel that's true even if they are too hard for me.

Hi. Puzzle freak here seeking refuge from my ghastly illogical world.

Honestly, this is my very first attempt at puzzle writing so I apologize if it's not very good. I tried this puzzle out on a friend and he was stumped by it but then he's not a puzzle-solver. I'm posting it here to see how solvable it is, or isn't.

Decipher the clues below to solve the 10-digit mystery number.
A through J equal 0 through 9, in some order.

You'll need to think "outside" the box a little bit...use your reasoning skills to determine the significance of various aspects of the clues. Anything that might seem "odd" is probably intentional, and its significance should be dictated by logic...hopefully.

----------------------------------------------

D + H = F

ZZZZZ Z = J B

0 < E

A – F = i

19H = K

Di – C = EC

-19

K = syllables

H > D
